Long hike through the trees. Amazing views on top. Unfortunately we got chased off the summit by rain.

Aborted Great Range traverse
Started at 2am from the Loj for a Great Range traverse. Weather was decent enough until we crossed treeline. Atop Marcy there was 20-30ft visibility, high winds, and very slick rocks -- not at all safe traverse weather! We turned back, hit Phelps on the way back, and took a (freezing!) dip in the river just above Marcy Dam.

New York Dishes Out some Suffering
via South Meadow to Marcy Dam Route.
Made it up and back in about 8 hours (slower coming down, as my brother threw out his back - hadn't hiked in a while - and I suffered either a broken foot or a serious sprain about 2 miles above the dam). My mother the nurse practitioner is trying to tell me to stay off it for a while; we'll see how long that lasts.
Beautiful views; fun hike. That last 1.2 miles to the summit were more than we'd anticipated.
After living in NY for years, I decided it was time for me to finally claim the HP. I came in by way of Marcy Dam, and encountered snow by 3500'. i was thankful for the rented MSRs, and put them to use up to about 5000' when the snow gave way to the exposed rocks near the top. Looking back on it now, I was comically overpacked - but you have to start somewhere!

Nice day hike
Had a nice overnight near the south meadow trailhead, had an alpine start and summited around noon. It was a long day, but a good one.

"wintery" conditions
I called the Adirondak Loj to find out about trail conditions, & the attendant said "you'll need crampons or stabilizers if you wanna summit" and I said "no, really?" and she said "yah, really."
Climbed Marcy a couple of times when I was in high school -- hiking in the Adirondacks -- blackflies, muddy trails etc -- helped me to decide to move to California.

Hiked up in the rain this morning on the Van Hoevenberg Trail from South Meadows. Lots of snow left over from the past couple weeks, but the past few days of 40-50F weather has started to melt it. Lots of water on the trail and off and lots and lots of ice, especially from Indian Falls and onward. Crampons (or microspikes) are necessary, in my opinion.
The summit was covered in clouds, with high winds and sideways rain, so I didn't get to see any of the view :( Wouldn't you know it, on the way back down the skies cleared and the sun came out. Better late than never, right?

Got a pre-dawn start from the Adirondack Loj and made it to the top by 10:30am. A few minutes after reaching the summit, a thunderstorm rolled through so we quickly left and began our descent. I gotta say, being on top of an exposed summit with thunder all around you is absolutely terrifying!
Climbed Marcy with a steady rain to begin, and then some thunder and touch of lightning. waited below tree line for the storm to pass and reached the summit to see low clouds lifting off the peaks.. the sun began to show through but was quickly replaced by more clouds and cool drizzle. We caught the summit at probably the best moment of the day and I'm thankful for that. Great Peak, only one other couple up top when I arrived. #19

This was my 14th SHP. I went via the Van Hoevenberg Trail. The trail is very well marked and would be difficult to get lossed on- unless you went off trail.
A very long hike on a crystal-clear summer day. Once above the treeline, the views were incredible. Started early morning so we had plenty of time to lounge once we summited - plenty of company up there too. Back down by dinnertime
