Steep! We headed northwest from the summit and went around the north side of Massive Green. We then descended steep scree slopes into the Ampitheatre. Great time!
2:45 up under azure skies. The 3 foot high rock cairn for the right turn is on the right side of the main trail. And there are actually two cairns. The CFI trail hits the ridge north of the saddle.
This is the short, but steep route on Massive... they're putting in switchbacks, so Roach's mileage is off. Started 3:00, up 6:15 for sunrise. Gorgeous. trip report to come - did Elbert same day
3 1/2 hours to summit for 6 AM sunrise
This was my second attempt in 2 weeks. I made it this time in 4 1/2 hours. That ridge was a lot of fun but the hike back down after the saddle was rather long. Great views.
I had planned to Hike Peak 1 in the Tenmile Range on this day, but my sister's friend, Kate, had planned to do a 14er, so we climbed Massive. The weather was gorgeous: clear skies, not too windy, though it was pretty warm coming back down. It was a good, but very long day.
My second attempt on Mount Massive. This route is enjoyable, but it makes for a long day. The view from the top was fantastic!
Perfect day on a fun mountain. Had a nice traverse over to North Massive and back down through the basin.
Very windy on top. Could not stand up without holding onto rocks.
one of my favorite Colorado 14ers
One of my favorites so far. I like the long hikes.
This was my fist time to go solo. A harbinger of many more to come. I want to go back and do all 4 summits of Massive someday.
A fun adventure! We camped at the base, then had a great time hiking it! We were the first to summit:-) Very enjoyable and easy!
This is a slogfest. Great views of the whole valley. Save your knees on the way down.
Climbed with two friends from work. Made the summit and it wasn't crowded at all. Snow squall chased us off. Camped the night before along Halfmoon Creek and was kept awake by all-night party goons.
I got off to a late start and lucked out with not running into any afternoon storms.
A long and high attitude gain. The valley west of Massive is just gorgeous and drew me back several
times to camp and climb Mt Oklahoma and Deer
I took the Halfmoon Creek Trail. This sucked. I was sliding back as much as I moved forward. Scree from hell. The trail was kind of hard to follow. Coming down was just as bad, falling on my ass the whole way down.
Second attempt on Massive. First attempt failed via Willow Creek/East Slopes. A good hike ending in success!
