Route Climbed: Mt. Massive Trail/East Slopes Date Climbed: June 28, 1998  Sucess!

Left Denver very early in the morning. Started at 6:15 am. Solo with my dog Roscoe, a huge Rodesian Ridgeback 14er dog! Got to the summit at 11:35 am. Lots of other folks on the summit and on the ridge to the summit. Great ridge hike!! Still lots of snow during this spring. Snow was quite slushy by the descent though. Back to car by 3:30 pm. Long, beautiful, very enjoyable hike.

Route Climbed: Trail Date Climbed: July 5, 2001  Sucess!

More like a trail hike than a mountain climb. Very easy dayhike to the top in just over 3 hours. Roundtrip in less than 5.

Route Climbed: Mount Massive Trailhead - East Slopes Date Climbed: August 23, 2002  Sucess!

A long hike to the top. The final ridge to the summit over a few false summits was fun. Got chased off the summit by some black clouds rolling in.

Get an early start on this one.

A nice long hike to the top. A massive undertaking. My second 14er! Followed the trail to the saddle between Massvie and South Massive. After that, the trail is sometimes hard to find as you scramble and bolder hop to the summit. There are a few small false summits after the saddle. Keep going and you will get there quicker than you think. No summit register however!!! We decided to just go right down the southeast face instead of going back to the saddle. Not too difficult of a descent. It was obvious that many people do this.

Route Climbed: west couloir Date Climbed: 8/5/02  Sucess!

Wonderful trail into the heart of the wilderness, camped in a glacial ampitheatre at 13,000 ft. Next morning was a steep scramble up a couloir that took us right to the very top! Tons of fun and a confidence builder!

Route Climbed: East Slopes from Mt Massive TH Date Climbed: july 15, 2002  Sucess!

A fun climb. First half was pretty tame and flat ... then some uphill and a bit of route finding over the rocks at the end. Overall a very fun climb.

Route Climbed: Mt. Massive trial Date Climbed: November 2, 2001  Sucess!

Had an itch for one more 14er since my excursion to Long's Peak in September was cancelled to snow. Went on a Friday with a friend. Slept in our cars and it was freezing when we got up. We had sunshine and blue sky all day. Real beautiful trail but a long one. Snow on the ground and sometimes knee deep but never enough to pull out the snowhoes. Someone had gone up the day before and left some nice steps in the snow at the top. I would like to thank him/her. Only saw 2 other hikers as we were coming down

First summit of Nolan's 14, less than 3 hours from Fish Hatchery but already most of the other runners are ahead of me. Down the west scree slopes an on to Elbert.

Hiked up Massive the day after Elbert. After all the crowds on Elbert, it was weird to have the whole mountain to myself. Never saw anyone the whole day. A massive T-storm kept me from lingering on the summit. I raced it back down, and it struck while I was at about 12,500 feet, so I guess I beat it. This mountain is called Massive for a reason, if I'm ever in CO in the winter, I know what ski-traverse I plan on trying.

Route Climbed: Halfmoon Trailhead Date Climbed: November 11, 2001  Sucess!

Left Aurora at around 5:30am and began hiking at 7:45am. Should've gotten an earlier start for this time of the year. A little more than half way up I ran into some untracked snow that was pretty deep in places and this slowed me down quite a bit. Took me about 6 hours to make it to the summit and another 4 to get back to the car. Definately going to buy some gaiters for my next snowy hike. This was the most difficult 14er I've climbed so far mostly due to the amount of snow I encountered. Not a very technical climb just long. This was the first 14er for my dog Chelsea. She and I were the only ones on the summit except one other guy this particular day.
