Highest east of the Mississippi
Last of a HP trip to appalachia. Was pouring rain the entire day. Soaking wet up top, no views, but still glad I was able to make it -- was turned away a year ago with road closures. HP #26. Gonna have to come back to this area for VA and KY, but not a bad problem to have, especially in the fall!

Mitchell!
Mystery Science Theatre 3000 reference. Sunny and 70s with a cool breeze. From the second row of the parking lot.
Pretty wet & muddy. Nice cool day, no clouds on top. ~3hrs RT.

Old Mitchell Trail
Climbed via the Old Mitchell Trail. A fun, technical, though short, hike on a beautiful summer day. The summit had clear weather and 65 degree temps, so it was unusual from what I have heard!
Enjoyable solo though little long a hike with lots of wild flowers on the trail mainly rhododendron, didn't run into many people on the trail and was clapping my hands and yelling bear in order not to startle bears in the area. Called prior to the trip for the service shuttle which turned out to be not reliable and out of service this weekend, didn't mind the hike down though. All in all great trip with rewarding views at the Summit.

atop of Mt. Mitchell
Out in Asheville for GeoWoodstock XV and came up to knock Mt. Mitchell off of my list. Beautiful summit and drive up. Rain clouds set in to make a memorable experience.
Beautiful trails. I'm going to pay for that elevation gain in the morning, though.

Super Cold Summit
Excellent hike to summit. Icy patches on trail on upper 1/2 of trail. 15 degrees F on the summit clear and no wind. Amazing.

Mitchell
The clouds were moving in and out on the day I went to the summit. I had better views from lower down. However, it's great to have gone to the top of the highest U.S. peak east of the Mississippi.

Larvitour Stop #6
Climbing this mountain was like going back in time from May (at Black Mountain Campground, where I began) to February (up top). I spotted my first snow-patches around 5000', and by the time I reached the summit the ground was completely covered in it. Fortunately for me, it was all soft and slushy, but if it'd been just a bit colder I would have sorely missed my micro-spikes. The summit was sealed in clouds (again... three times I've been up Mt. Mitchell and it's never given me a clear view), but the views were nice on the way down.
