Mitchell via Black Mountain Crest Trail
Mount Mitchell the more difficult way starts with a good 3k ft ascent. Completed as training for Kilimanjaro while on the east coast. Overnight 1 night. Under-appreciated need for careful water management.

Mitchell ('18)
My first State HP, quite nice if extremely easy. No views as the peak was socked in, it made for a cool atmosphere though. Nice area, pretty forests on the way up and a neat summit tower and marker. This is also the most prominent and isolated peak I've done to-date. Good hike, would recommend

HP #31!
Most people hike this, but I was very limited for time trying to catch the eclipse in Nashville, so I drove here in the early morning.
What was most notable was that I saw a black bear driving down!

Glad I brought rain gear!
It is funny how peak bagging works. This trip started with "Lets hike Mount Mitchell", but we all know that that is not how it ends. So we flew into Atlanta, drove to Brasstown Bald, stayed in Asheville, hiked Clingmans Dome, Sassafras, Brasstown Bald, and finally on the last day in the rain Mount Mitchell. Although there was no view and it was seasonally cold it gave us all the reason more to celebrate the summit. In summation, Three days, 4 high points, over 30 miles.

Loved the Blue Ridge Parkway. Windy and cloudy and cool enough for a jacket up at the summit.

Highest east of the Mississippi
Last of a HP trip to appalachia. Was pouring rain the entire day. Soaking wet up top, no views, but still glad I was able to make it -- was turned away a year ago with road closures. HP #26. Gonna have to come back to this area for VA and KY, but not a bad problem to have, especially in the fall!

Mystery Science Theatre 3000 reference. Sunny and 70s with a cool breeze. From the second row of the parking lot.
Pretty wet & muddy. Nice cool day, no clouds on top. ~3hrs RT.

Old Mitchell Trail
Climbed via the Old Mitchell Trail. A fun, technical, though short, hike on a beautiful summer day. The summit had clear weather and 65 degree temps, so it was unusual from what I have heard!
Enjoyable solo though little long a hike with lots of wild flowers on the trail mainly rhododendron, didn't run into many people on the trail and was clapping my hands and yelling bear in order not to startle bears in the area. Called prior to the trip for the service shuttle which turned out to be not reliable and out of service this weekend, didn't mind the hike down though. All in all great trip with rewarding views at the Summit.
