Didn't start until 3 PM so the rain earlier in the day had a chance to clear off. Two hours and thirty three minutes to the top with microspikes; I liked the open rock slabs on the way up. When you reach the massive free standing glacial erratic on your right on the ascent you are more than 75% to the summit.

Hot day, cool hike
Was longer than expected - very easy hike other than the wet granite. Hadn't rained in 10 days and was 80 out and granite was still weeping water - can't imagine it is ever dry.

Winter-like
Climbed Moriah with my son (and best hiking buddy) from the Rattle River trailhead. The trailhead had traces of light sleet but the higher we climbed the more continuous the snow became. By the time we were nearing the summit there was 4-5 inches of snow and rhyme ice on the tress making for a beautiful winter scene on the summit. The views south to the Carters was fantastic!
It is now time for the microspikes/cramp-ons and gaitors to come out. We left our gaitors in the car and regretted it, I did not realize so much snow fell since midweek when I last check local summit webcams for wildcat. Microspikes made the climb more sure footed.
Temps were cold on the summit in the low 20s but the winds were light. The gales were not supposed to come in until the evening so we bagged the peak and headed down via the Stony Brook Trail. We had planned to do the Carters as well but the icy snowy conditions made travel slower than the week before when I bagged 6 peaks in a weekend so we had to take the escape chute before ending up hiking by headlamp in gales over the Dome later that evening.

Number Two of Trip
Cool hike. Liked the open slabby areas but they can be slimy and very slippery when moist. Number two of my trip to NH to hike with Flanders. Met a woman who only had one more 4000er to get and we convinced her to try Washington the next day. Hope she got it.
Beautiful night hike ending with a perfect sunset over the Presidentials.

Fun hike from the south
Climbed it with my dad, heading up to it from the south along the Carter-Moriah Trail. Nice views at the top (including a male spruce grouse).

Nice hike
Wanted to do Mt Washington but got snowed out so settled for this one. The only successful summit in a one week trip. Also failed on Adams and Jefferson. Also climbed it in the summer in the 1980's.
We had perfect Sept weather. Cool nights, warm days. Stayed at the Rattle River shelter. No bugs. Awesome time.

Stony Brook Trail
So I took the Stony Brook Trail to the Carter-Moriah Trail which I liked. It was one of those days where the clouds go in and out. It was a long drive back from Gorham to NJ.

Climbed with North Carter, Lethe, Middle Carter and South Carter via the Carter-Moriah Trail from Pinkham Notch. A nice day to be on the Appalachian Trail. Had the most amazing sunset from the Imp Campsite the night before. Great views from the summit of the Presidential and Mahoosuc Ranges.

Carter-Moriah Trail
Good day to be in the mountains. Glad I wasn't caught above the ledges when the rain came. I don't recommend this trail for dogs unless they are good at bushwacking as the ledges could pose some issues for them. Also, Bangor Road is currently getting worked on (water pipes, I believe) so just beware that you might have to wait a bit. The parking at the trailhead is also minimal, so be conscious of where you park and where the construction equipment will need to go.

Carter-Moriah Trail from Gorham
A lot more snow than expected above 3K feet, hit this summit around noon and the views were great, perfect weather. Continued along to North, Middle and South Carter.

Got a great sunset the previous night. Awoke and traversed Moriah, then made it to US-2 and hitched into Gorham.
Well, with the Indian Summer, I had to get out and enjoy temps in the mid 70s!! Fine day, hardly a cloud in the sky. Perfect views. I came back to get this one in the summer. In April 07, a friend and I lost the trail on the ledges due to the 4+ ft of snow. The fall colors were starting to come out and looked quite nice.

I backpacked over the peak with My Friend Tom F. Tom and I always planned to meet again for a trip in later years. In 2004 I lost my chance, as Tom died suddenly at age 50. I plan to climb another Moriah someday, partly as remembrance.
Exact date is a bit unclear. Part of a 300 mile trek on the AT. Went from the P Notch to Imp Cabin the day before (over Wildcats and Carters), then over Moriah next morn.
