Finally got my last 14er by swinging over after a winter trip up Whitney on the Mountaineer's Route. Hit Muir next and then down from Trail Crest. Returning to camp between UBSL and Iceberg Lake was not easy!
Climbed Muir both on the way to Whitney and then on the way back.
With John then Todd.
Always worth the short detour when hiking Whitney.
Last day hike of a long week on the East Side.
This was the high-point of Mt. Whitney day hike from Whitney Portal....began the 97 switchbacks under alpen-glow on Whitney....blood red sunrise. Gorgeous. Met a climber going up the switchbacks who was on his way to Mt. Muir so joined him and we examined the summit block and ascended as per Secor's route. Thrilling!
I did the 15 minute side trip, which was not bad
Scrambled up the correct peak this time. That was some pretty steep Class 3.
Quick solo evening run up from trail camp after hauling overnight pack up to trail camp (did Whitney in the morning with rest of group). Feels more class 4 than class 3 to me; more exposure than I was really comfortable with unprotected.
Whitney trail with Debbie and Duane. Great weather, no one around.
Did Muir on the way to Whitney
Muir was the third summit of a great four-peak traverse with Sawtooth Sean. The final scramble was a lot of fun. Trip Report
Not much room on the top of this summit!
Whitney/Muir in a day. Ouch...
Scrambled up on the way down from Whitney. Climbing the summit block was really fun, and I loved the views from the apex.
Grabbed it on the way down after climbing up Whitney via the Mountaineer's Route.
Did the Carillon-Russell-Whitney-Muir traverse in a long day with SuperDave. Muir was the last peak of the day and was a great little scramble.
Excellent deviation from the trail slog up Whitney...and provided my buddy Bret some privacy to propose to Jannel on the trail below while I scrambled up :) Congrats guys!
Good, solid rock and an airy summit away from the crowds for a short bit.
It has become my tradition to climb Mt. Muir on my way down from Whitney. I've done it thirteen times so far. It's a short but fun climb with a big payoff.
nice little summit block. but a bump on a ridge not a peak
Solo from Outpost Camp, well sort of - carried pack to Trail Camp but decided to come back to Outpost. Windy ....
Climbed Mt. Muir as part of a 5 peak Whitney Loop. Up the MR and down MT.
1986 Finally climbed this after passing by on 2 previous trips, the route unfolds as you go up
