Route Climbed: Whitney Trail Date Climbed: June 18th, 2004  Sucess!

Fun short class 3 section. Small summit block. Nice views. Took my eleven year old. His first climb and first summit ever.

Route Climbed: West side Date Climbed: June 19, 2004  Sucess!

Fun but scary scramble up the rock face on return from a day hike to Whitney. The top is so small, it was hard to turn around. If you get vertigo, this is NOT the place for you.

22 miles, 6,500 ft elevation gain, 2 fourteeners, not bad for a day's work. =^)

This wasn't plan, we just did this as we went along the day.

Fun class 3 scramble to the top. Everyone on the return from Whitney should do Muir.

Route Climbed: Whitney Main Trail Date Climbed: June 1, 2003  Sucess!

I was tired on the way back from Whitney and I decided that I didn't want to have to come back so I dropped my pack and scrambled up to the peak. Glad I did it.

Route Climbed: Cottonwood Lakes, Rock Creek, CrabTree Pass, Whitney trail, West Chute Date Climbed: 9/14/03  Sucess!

Success! I bagged this peak after a turning back 40 feet from the summit 2 years earlier. It is true, there is not much room on the summit block. There were 5 of us perched there that day, Myself, Joe Finken, Phil Edmundson, Mario Martinez, and Rob (Joe's Friend). Credit must also be given to Bob Finken who joined us to Langley and Whitney on this three peaks in three days trip.

Scrambled up Mt. Muir on the way back from Mt. Whitney via main trail. Fun climb

My friend and I tagged this peak while on a summit trip for Mt. Whitney. I highly encourage all of those who are feeling the energy while on a Whitney trip, to take the extra time to tag this peak.

Route Climbed: East Buttress Date Climbed: May 1979  Sucess!

Brian West and I climbed this fine alpine route in spring of a heavy snow year. We found good firm rock (5.7) and short sections of steep ice. The previous day I had stashed a pair of skis at Trail Crest and had a great run on perfect corn down the gully west of the switchbacks after our climb.

Route Climbed: Whitney Trail (aka. Switchback hell) Date Climbed: October 11, 2003  Sucess!

Took a little detour on my descent from climbing Mt Whitney's mountaineers route. It certainly had the same feel as the East Ridge of Mt Russell!

The route descriptions for the type of scrambling to expect were accurate. I was suprised at how short the scramble was from the trail. Also, finding where to go up was a little challenging, but by comparing landmarks and phtos courtesy of summitpost we were able to find the route.

Route Climbed: From Whitney trail after climbing E. Face of Whitney. Date Climbed: 09/21/02 and 09/09/95  Sucess!

After me and Ian climbed the East Face of Whitney, I hiked over to Mt. Muir from the trail. I descend the mountaineer's route of Whitney to the car. Making for a full day.

In 1995, I did from Whitney trail only.

Summited via class 3 scramble from the Whitney Trail. Great summit with incredible views.

Route Climbed: South skyline from Whitney Trail Date Climbed: Sept 19, 2003  Sucess!

Took a quick detour from the Tourist Trail to sign in during a casual day guiding my 14yo sister to Whitney. I wore my Nike sandals the entire time, including up a variation to the Muir summit.

Route Climbed: west face from whitney trail Date Climbed: september 12, 2003  Sucess!

ascended whitney via the mountaineer's route, hiked over to Muir to bag it. Tiny summit, no crowds. 14'er number 10. Got some puzzled looks as I went back up Whitney, took a left to descend via the MR.....

Route Climbed: Via the Whitney Trail Date Climbed: September 6, 2003  Sucess!

After using our rest day to ascend Whitney via the Mountaineer's route, I talked my partner in to taking the 2 mile round trip journey to do Mt. Muir. Quite a contrast to the hoards of people sitting on Whitney's top. Interesting conversations from people encouraging us on as we traversed back over to Whitney to descend the Mountaineer's route.

Day 9 of the Sierra Challenge. This was supposed to be a climb of McAdie, but the guys I was with weren't too enthusiastic about that and wanted to head up here instead. This was my first visit to this area, so I just went along with the majority...

This is a short scramble, but it's a quality one--it was some of the most enjoyable climbing I did all week. Great rock, good holds, some enjoyable exposure, and fantastic views at the top too.

Came back in Aug 2004 as part of a five SPS peak dayhike loop out of Whitney Portal: Carillon-Tunnabora-Russell-Whitney-Muir. Mt. Muir seemed much easier than I remembered. Maybe my scrambling skills actually have improved...

Solo'd up the class 3 part with the help of a marked up photo. Although I was a bit apprehensive at first, this short climb was a lot of fun. A few patches of snow left over from the thunderstorm the day before had me concerned but turned out not to be a problem. After getting back down to the trail I met a fellow named Basil who wanted to do it so I went up again with him. Even more fun the second time!

An awesome little climb that helped to break the monotony of the endless Whitney Trail. Didn't see a single person even attempt Muir that day, though there had to be 150 people on the trail. A must do for anyone who's going up Whitney, just because you are right there.

Route Climbed: Whitney Trail Date Climbed: August 10, 2003  Sucess!

Summited at around 1 pm, after summiting Russell and Whitney earlier that day. In this way I accomplished my goal of climbing three 14ers on my 33rd birthday. Got back to the trailhead at around 4:30 pm. Total time ca. 16 hrs.

Had a real winter conditions and being prepared for the fresh snow, we were lucky to get to the Trail Crest by the broad coulour (crampons and ice axes). Then proceeded along the trail and at the duck headed up to the base of the summit pinnacle. Brought the rope, but never used as it was class 3+ scrambling. Saw some weired hikers doing Whitney that looked like gosts. The fresh snow prevented many groups from climbing the peaks in this area, but for us the snowshoes helped to get back to the TH w/o problems.
