Route Climbed: whitney trail Date Climbed: Sept 10 2004  Sucess!

Third peak in a row where I got too anxious and left the trail too early. As a result, had to traverse over from the horn to the south - still a fun summit block.

Enjoyable but short climb. Made the summit in 2:20 from bivy spot at U. Crabtree lake. Decided the best way up that sand hill is to climb the cliffs (cl.3). Must have watched 30 hikers pass on the trail below that didn't even look up, no wonder this peak is rarely climbed.

Route Climbed: Via Whitney Trail Date Climbed: August 29, 2004  Sucess!

This was a fun summit block. We took a route that was more or less left of center. There is a decent use trail leading up to it that is marked with a duck on the Whitney Trail.

Route Climbed: East Buttress (new 5.7 variation) Date Climbed: July 24, 2004  Sucess!

Etsuko and I climbed a new variation on the East Buttress route. Instead of climbing on the right side of the crest (classic route) or via a squeeze chimney (documented variation), we climbed a vertical crack/chimney system to the top of the "1st tower". It provided a new aesthetic line on the route that is better protected and more enjoyable than the original chimney. The weather in the area was incredible. We solo'd most of the route with the exception of two new pitches. Whoever thinks that this route (any variation) is Class 4, think again. We encountered mid 5th class moves and lots of exposure from the very base of the buttress. As we topped out, we reunited with our friends who just completed the 5.10a route on Aiguille Extra. Fun!

Fun short class 3 section. Small summit block. Nice views. Took my eleven year old. His first climb and first summit ever.

Route Climbed: West side Date Climbed: June 19, 2004  Sucess!

Fun but scary scramble up the rock face on return from a day hike to Whitney. The top is so small, it was hard to turn around. If you get vertigo, this is NOT the place for you.

22 miles, 6,500 ft elevation gain, 2 fourteeners, not bad for a day's work. =^)

Fun class 3 scramble to the top. Everyone on the return from Whitney should do Muir.

I was tired on the way back from Whitney and I decided that I didn't want to have to come back so I dropped my pack and scrambled up to the peak. Glad I did it.

Route Climbed: Cottonwood Lakes, Rock Creek, CrabTree Pass, Whitney trail, West Chute Date Climbed: 9/14/03  Sucess!

Success! I bagged this peak after a turning back 40 feet from the summit 2 years earlier. It is true, there is not much room on the summit block. There were 5 of us perched there that day, Myself, Joe Finken, Phil Edmundson, Mario Martinez, and Rob (Joe's Friend). Credit must also be given to Bob Finken who joined us to Langley and Whitney on this three peaks in three days trip.

My friend and I tagged this peak while on a summit trip for Mt. Whitney. I highly encourage all of those who are feeling the energy while on a Whitney trip, to take the extra time to tag this peak.

Route Climbed: East Buttress Date Climbed: May 1979  Sucess!

Brian West and I climbed this fine alpine route in spring of a heavy snow year. We found good firm rock (5.7) and short sections of steep ice. The previous day I had stashed a pair of skis at Trail Crest and had a great run on perfect corn down the gully west of the switchbacks after our climb.

Route Climbed: Whitney Trail (aka. Switchback hell) Date Climbed: October 11, 2003  Sucess!

Took a little detour on my descent from climbing Mt Whitney's mountaineers route. It certainly had the same feel as the East Ridge of Mt Russell!

The route descriptions for the type of scrambling to expect were accurate. I was suprised at how short the scramble was from the trail. Also, finding where to go up was a little challenging, but by comparing landmarks and phtos courtesy of summitpost we were able to find the route.

Route Climbed: From Whitney trail after climbing E. Face of Whitney. Date Climbed: 09/21/02 and 09/09/95  Sucess!

After me and Ian climbed the East Face of Whitney, I hiked over to Mt. Muir from the trail. I descend the mountaineer's route of Whitney to the car. Making for a full day.

In 1995, I did from Whitney trail only.

Took a quick detour from the Tourist Trail to sign in during a casual day guiding my 14yo sister to Whitney. I wore my Nike sandals the entire time, including up a variation to the Muir summit.

ascended whitney via the mountaineer's route, hiked over to Muir to bag it. Tiny summit, no crowds. 14'er number 10. Got some puzzled looks as I went back up Whitney, took a left to descend via the MR.....
