Very pleasant -- clouds on the east side, clear on the west. Went over North Peak on way out. Heard growling in the woods on way up, and way back.
Hiked the north route with my very supportive wife.
After reading a number of reviews, I was a little concerned about the difficulty and the exposure that some mentioned. Let me say that unless you have a fear of heights, there's really nothing to be worried about.
We saw two hikers coming off the trail just as we arrived at the parking lot, two hikers started up the trail five minutes after we started and chased us the whole way, and two hikers were coming off the summit just as we started up Mount Nebo proper. It felt like we had the mountain to ourselves. Weather was perfect--cool, scattered clouds, no rain.
A great hike!
Followed the north ridge route. It was a beautiful day so there was lots of traffic on the trail. I summited around 10:30AM after 2.5 hrs, including North Peak. Awesome hike!
This was a pretty tough hike for me, but wholly worthwhile! Total round-trip distance was 9.43 miles and total time 10 hours and 23 minutes. Being a Sunday in Utah County, traffic was pretty light on the trail. I only saw eight other people (two of which were just doing a short hike on the lower trail), one dog, plus two solo hikers who were off-trail in the North Peak area. I have a full trip report and a lot of photos on my website here: http://udink.org/2014/07/15/mt-nebo/
I felt it important to practice my ice skating skills while on the ridge of Nebo. I really couldn't help myself. This was spectacular because it gave me plenty of snow to sun myself on and some views that were worth the climb. I give this mountain four paws up yo.
Tried to solo last year but was cut short by weather. Started late this time with Duc - 4pm. Made the summit before 7 with plenty of stops along the way to take in the magnificent views on the North Peak Trail. Made it back to the car around 9 with still plenty of daylight!
It is sad that it has taken this long for me to finally claim the high point in my county, but it has finally happened, and I was absolutely astonished by how gorgeous this hike was. Wow! What a peak! I love that we nearly had the mountain to ourselves on a weekend. We had the summit for about 45 minutes alone. I think this was one of my favorite mountains. Oh the neebs, I'll be back.
I tried my best to trail run Nebo today from the North Peak Route. Not a great idea. Steep! Summited in 1:41 and didn't make it to the south peak due to an incoming storm. Ran most of the way down in about 1:15. Last 2 miles in the rain. Saw the coolest rain cloud about half way down blowing over the ridge.
From the Mona Pole TH. Hiked to North Peak, made my way to Wolf Pass, and then scrambled to the summit. Great views and great weather!
This one is a bit deceptive for 2 reasons: 1. You might mistakenly look at the total miles and elevation gain and assume it's a gradual ascent. It's actually fairly steep when it does climb! 2. Hiking 10 miles at 11000 feet is simply not the same as 10 miles at 8000 feet. That said, it's a good, solid hike with incredible views.
Beautiful hike - wildflowers were perfect today. 2:20 to the top from the car, leisurely pace down.
7/2/2013 Climbed the North route via the Mona Pole Road trailhead. Great day, fun climb.
8/31/2014 From the Monument TH to North Peak and then on to Mount Nebo. From there we went on to the Middle and South summit. The traverse from Middle to South is very fun and quite challenging. We followed the Nebo Bench trail on the way back. Overall roundtrip was 15.7 miles and 6,267 vertical feet.
The wind sounded like the ocean, a man offered me his nuts, I saw a black rosy-finch, and I shared pretzels with friends. It was a good day to be atop Nebo!
A cold front made for perfect crampon snow, and a partial boot-pack only made things easier. Traversed over to North afterwards. Trip report.
Went with another Summit Post member and almost got him killed. There was plenty of snow up top and no other climbers, so we decided since we'd carried ice axes and crampons we would use them and scootled down a nice snowfield, but wound up taking the wrong canyon down, which was half by choice as it looked more direct than the trail. The snow gave out, and we found ourselves manuevering through and around a series of waterfalls. Eventually we gave up and climbed back up some few thousand feet of awful cliffs and were on our feet 18 hours before making our cars at a little past midnight. The walk is ambitious enough without the extra curriculars, but a decent peak so far as peaks go. We went up the Andrew's Trail.
A lot of fun. I should have hit North Peak on my way by but didn't think of it at the time.
One of my favorite peaks.
We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day. The morning was a nice crisp 47deg. Which helped on the many ups and downs this hike has to offer. This hike covered it all a nice stroll through a wooded area, beautiful canyon area, big valleys, rolling hills, and several steep sections to keep the heart pumping.
Several people out trying to get a piece of Nebo today, but many would stop short of the final ascent, which on it’s on is quite the accomplishment. I figure you made through the first steep you might as well push on to the next. It gave us a chance to enjoy the peak by ourselves for awhile, which is amazing, to suck all of it in takes awhile.
We had a nice lunch on top and then pressed on back, temp. Never broke 80deg. A small breeze the rest of the way out kept these hikers very content. One of the best hikes I have done this year. I look forward to visiting this one again, but next time I will get North Peak as well. Great Hike!!!!
GREAT hike! Great trail, challenging steep sections and scrambling, awesome views! Incredible accomplishment! We had tons of fun on this hike!
