My son and I made a failed attempt via Beus Canyon. We made it to about 8,600 feet to the top of the Birch Creek Canyon switchbacks where the route turns west for the last leg to the Mt. Ogden saddle. We felt fine, and had plenty of daylight left, but that last traverse was too icy to be done safely with yak trax and trekking poles. A slip in that area would result in serious injury or worse. Still had a great day in the mountains with my boy!
What a great time to climb Mt. Ogden. Fall leaves were insanely beautiful. Views from the top were amazing in all directions.
Fourth and finally successfull attempt (2 fails because of deep snow, 1 fail due to general pansyness). Approached from the Bues trailhead -- 9 Hours round trip with leg cramps, vicious bugs, really aggressive rattlesnakes, and thousand foot trackless hillsides. Legs are numb this morning but this is a definite "Gotta Do" hike!
Climbed today by myself. Awesome day. The summit was a bit windy and cold, but not bad enough to stop me from having lunch on the heli-pad. 3rd summit of Mt. Ogden, first time via Beus. Great day!
A nice hike with DB. The summit was so comfy that we hung out for 90 minutes and took a nap! Bagged Allen Peak too.
Hiked up via Beus. Near the top we had to cross a few large patches of snow in the deeper, smaller crevaces. Crossing those was a little sketchy, as it was really steep, and if you were to lose your footing and start to slide you'd end up quickly sliding several hundred yards down the mountain into rocks.
Made it to the ridge just below and south of the peak, and returned. A great day.
So far this route has been the easiest to the summit that I have done. There were quite a few people hunting in the mountains. Maybe next time I go during hunting season I'll wear something orange.
What a great day for a hike! NOAA.gov said there was a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms at the summit, and I was a fool not to heed the warning, but luckily they were wrong and it was a nice, cool, shady day, and I didn't feel any raindrops or hear any thunder.
The ferns in the valley were thick and wet from earlier rain, and I was drenched after getting through them, but that's my lone complaint for the day.
I ate lunch part of the way up, but still made it to the top in 4 hours. The view was amazing, between the wispy clouds that streamed quickly by.
Hike up when there is a tram? What was I thinking?

....should have used pouched tuna. Nice day for 4400' of vertical.
Nice day, started out overcast but by the time I dumped my can of tuna at the top (faulty can opener) it was nice and sunny. Hey, there's a road to the top ...
Lost count of how many times Ive climbed Mount Ogden, The Heli Pad on top is a good place to lay out and get a tan. I climbed the West face in winter and glissaded down the couloir. That was fun!
Very hot day, Im glad I went up the back side instead of the front.
Took the day to get a couple prominence peaks. Did James before Ogden - both great hikes, fun day.
My feet sure hurt by the time was down 7 hours and 14 minutes later.
I have lived in its shadow my entire life.. its about time I climbed it.
I had originally hoped to do both Mt. Ogden and nearby James Peak but didn't quite get the early start I needed so I drove up from Orem and hiked up from the lodge at the base of Snowbasin. Snow on the ground made it a bit more alpine but it was not enough for skiing. I almost had the mountain to myself except for meeting two guys and two dogs who were doing a traverse from the Ogden side. Windy on top but a nice day.
Got an early start. Got to the top in just over 2 hours. A fairly mild hike compared to most in the central Wasatch range.
This was a long hot day from Ogden. Fern valley was exceedingly humid and I was happy to make it back into the 95 degree sun?!
Starting from city of Ogden, I can summit this in the morning before I have to be at work (at 2 PM)
Took the direct way up, steep little sucker. Levels off once you get to the road. Awesome views from the top though. Real nice day.
