Halfmoon Creek TH
We climbed Oklahoma from Halfmoon Creek trailhead. 2002 saw us climb more thirteeners than fourteeners.

near the end
12/29/12- -22 degrees when steve and i started. there wasn't too much snow, but we postholed all the way to the summit. tired afterwards....
11/10/07- took advantage of the early low-snow year to nab oklahoma with jamie. pristine, peaceful area made for an enjoyable hike.
the snow started on the upper mountain(~13,200')which made for a rougher last hour or so to finish our climb. our descent towards treeline was accompanied by an hour long snowstorm. fun day!
CMC outing in Oct 2005 - right after a small snowfall. The mountains around were all dusted with snow - great views from the summit!

East Ridge/SE Slopes
Climbed Oklahoma en route to Massive. Due to weather concerns, we started at 1:00 am and summited at 4:30 am. The weather initially was fine; however, it quickly deteriorated into blowing snow and very high wind. We traversed from Oklahoma to Massive's summits via OK's north ridge.

I ascended the Southeast Slopes Route. Took the East Ridge down to the lower lake. The tundra is still in full bloom and looking very green and vibrant right now. Climbing without aid of a trail was a real treat. Suprisingly, Saw 5 others on this seldom visited peak.

Southeast slopes on snow
Still a lot of snow up there, getting soft. Nearby Massive looked dry in comparison. Beautiful summit views in all directions - well worth it. Glissaded down about 1400'. Climbed with Ron.

SE Slopes
Got an injury here that slowed me down that summer. I ran down some, and got an inflamed IT band, which didn't show up until two weeks later when I collapsed in pain on an attempt of Dallas Peak. Live and learn. But this mountain is beautiful, and a worthy outing.

Great day w/miztflip and Mr. Sham...thanks for letting me tag along fella's. Good "alternate" up the most eastern chute, great rock on upper half, and nice ridge to summit. Descent from southwest ridge made great tour of the east face with inspirational views all around. Highly recommended. Climb on!

I was surprised to see how few photos/ summit signings since the page was created. You are right that an altimeter is helpful on this route. After crossing the creek, we contoured a bit near or just below 11,600 ft (instead of ascending right away) and followed the least path of resistance for a few hundred yards (no more) and found an open but steep grassy slope where we climbed north to treeline. It was easier to see where you were going and it beat bushwhacking. From there (11,900 ft.) it seemed like you have two choices to get up to the flat area at 12,700 ft. where you finally ascend the southeast slopes. Instead of going north, northwest and up to the flat area (which I belive you described), we traversed west, around the cliffs and then north up an obvious talus gully and came out directly across from where you gain the southeast slope--not sure which is better/faster. It looked like a few others went the way we did--one of the few places I found sign of others before us.

I thought I was the only one that had been up this ridge! Wow...the east ridge is a remote mountain lover's dream. The view from the upper halfmoon lakes of Mount Elbert are impeccable. The scrambling is incredible as well. I spotted this ridge on my way up N. Massive the day before and simply HAD to climb it the next day. Well worth it let me tell you. Never thought I'd say this, but HOORAY OKLAHOMA!!!!

This day in October was perfect. I climbed Oklahoma with my friend Scott and we had a bast. Anytime you can be on the summit of a centennial thirteener with just a long sleeve tee in the middle of October you know you lucked out. Reguardless, I thought Oklahoma had a spectacular summit view. The view overlooking the Fryingpan Wilderness was special. It's such a remote place. Once again, I enjoyed this hike more than its neighboring, more popular Mt Massive. I love those centennials!
