Mount Olympus, way to go!

Mount Olympus, way to go!

Red Slug (Arion rufus) (also known as the Chocolate Arion or the European red slug) The red slug is said by some to be the same species as the black slug (Arion ater) (sometimes black arion, European black slug, large black slug, or the Northern menace). Originally from Europe. Perhaps the Red Slug's most distinguishable feature is the placement of its pneumostome (a breathing hole in the right side) just before the mid-point of its mantle (not seen on this picture). When picked up or touched, the black slug will contract to a hemispherical shape and begin to rock from side to side. This defensive behaviour confuses predators, and is unique in the Arionidae family. Near Quinault Lake, Olympic National Park. May 2007

Nice slug!

This is the one my grandmother
didn't care for. It was eating
up some plants in her garden.
