West Slabs

Made it to the top of the slab this time but didn't take the time to traverse all the way over the ridge to the actual summit.

Re: Various ascents

wow! that's impressive. So is the north summit that little pinnacle at the top of the west slabs? we made it to the top of that today but didn't want to go clear over to what looked like the real summit.

First time  Sucess!

Took longer than expected due to the slippery snow on the way up to the saddle. We had fun on the way down though!

Longer than expected  Sucess!

Was planning on 1:30 up and 45 minutes or so down, but that plan was doomed when we hit the snow! It was very slick and took us nearly 90 minutes to do the last mile or so (1000 vertical feet). We got off course the last 100 meters and ended up doing some fine 5.7 ish climbing to get over to the summit. A bit sketchy at times, but it seemed better than downclimbing back to the trail and post-holing through more snow to get on track. Didn't spend much time on top, but was really impressed. Very surprised by how steep the last 1/3 mile or so is...didn't expect that! We were alone on the summit surprisingly (Saturday at 2:30ish pm) with one other guy close that we passed on the way up.

A blustery hike  Sucess!

3/10/2012 - Second trip up, this time with views! Gorgeous views! My wife made it to the top, as did our little dog Pepper. What a great day. Got to hang out with Kadee and Castlereagh.

2/25/2012 - This was my first time up. The day started out very windy and quite warm, but the winds died down and the temperature dropped. Neither was a major factor, however. (Except that my bottled water started freezing!)
It was fun to see Joe Bullough get his 400th summit! There were ~10 people at the top when we got there, and Joe graciously offered us hot dogs. (Both he and his wife seem like great people.)
Thanks goes to Kadee for helping me prepare, and then accompanying me on the hike. I just wish the clouds hadn't been there so we would have had better views.
It was a great day and a fun hike!

A celebration

Helped Joseph Bullough celebrate his 400th summit, Bryan's (bun84067) 1st and my 5th. Had a great day and it was fun to see all the SPers at the summit.

A bunch  Sucess!

A total of 155 times. I love this peak in winter. Where else can you get 4000 vertical feet in and virtually never need snowshoes?

2/25/2012 Had a great time participating in Joe B's 400th ascent although I have to say that cupcakes piled high with gooey icing do not make good mitten food.

4/2/09 I picked this peak to do today because I thought it was going to be easy. Ha ha ha. I didn't bring snowshoes. Not smart. Moogie737, who did, was sinking in a foot and I another foot on top of that, and those were the good sections. I did a lot of crawling. After he ditched his snowshoes on the final steep push, we took turns shoveling the chest high snow out of the way with our hands to enable us to take a step.

Finally  Sucess!

Great hike up the steep trail. Great views of the city lights the whole way, fun scrambling at the top, perfect weather, and some sliding down the icy parts of the trail on the way down. Finally made it up this one after staring at it for so long.

Easy walk in the woods!   Sucess!

After a fairly grueling Lone Peak trip, this was over sooner than expected. When we reached the shoulder, I turned to my buddy and asked "is this really it?" I didn't believe it.
Unfortunately, once back to the Jeep, I left my Oregon GPS on the back bumper and drove away. Half an hour later, I returned, but it was long gone. I left my name, number, email and a plea to return it on the startup screen, but I have not gotten a message yet. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, as it was well over $400. Drat.
All the way down, nearly everybody we passed asked the same question, "how much longer to the shoulder?" I gave up estimating and gave the same answer after a dozen.

This was a rough steep hike. The saddle is beautiful and the view from the top is only unique to Mt Olympus. Glad I took a lot of pictures cause I wont be going back up again

Try to hike it every year. Some of the best views of the valley and the central Wasatch.

Mt Olympus Trail  Sucess!

Hiked and scrambled with a friend up Mt. Olympus Trail to the south summit, beautiful summer day. Snow was clear enough to only set foot on it once on the summit itself. Few bugs even with lots of runoff and vegetation. View to the rest of the central Wasatch to the south was striking.

The first summit in my life, I think  Sucess!

Started on a trail not knowing where it went. Somehow got off the trail and climbed the slabs to the summit. Probably not the smartest thing, but hey, kids do dumb things all the time and survive! The challenge of this peak got me hooked on climbing rocks.

Nice Afternoon  Sucess!

Left work at noon and was back to the car before dark. Beautiful view. A little bit of snow up near the top. Nothing major, but it made me take the scrambling section more slowly.
