One of the best sunset hikes I have ever done, would highly recommend this time of year and day, had the summit to ourselves at sunset.

all of the other peaks still have snow but Olympus is free, leading to the most amazing backdrop with the green valley and snowy peaks.

Deep in the clouds snow and fall colors
Amazing time to hike this, all the peaks around olympus were coated in a very early october snow and the leaves on the way up and down were amazing. Great day to be out.

Crucial Day 1
Early start. A bit slow going when you get into the crags (ridge approach) but a fairly easy go.

Climbed this with a hiking group early in the morning. Another group member and I blasted up to the saddle in 2 hours and waited 40 minutes for the group to gather before we all finished the neat scramble to the summit. We chilled, soaked in the amazing views, took pics, and noted a small rattler relaxing in the shade of a small rock before starting down. A different group member and I sped from the saddle to the bottom in a little over an hour, and we passed a climber being carried down on a stretcher just before the trailhead. A solemn reminder of what can happen even to the best of us. We waited for the rest of the group to finish the very hot descent before loading up in the cars and heading out. An intense climb well worth the effort!

Olympus Mons
Climbed up via the trail. Left late in the day so most of the crowds were heading down on our way up. Saw a good sized rattler on the lower slopes. The trail was definitely steeper than I expected. A dang good workout. As soon as we scrambled to the top a storm came through forcing us to descend sooner than we would have liked to. Great views back into the Mt. Olympus Wilderness.

Very hot free solo
Free solo climbed the West Slab route in 102 degree heat. After reaching the top of Olympus I decided to downclimb the West Slabs due to the fact that I did not have a shuttle car and the trail would have spit me out several miles away from where I parked. The route was not too bad to down climb although it was a bit more difficult than the ascent. Saw a huge beehive at the base of the slabs(climbers right on the way up). All in all a great easy climb, even if it was ridiculously hot.
Took our pups with us, they made it even up the final scramble. It was strenuous going up, but once to the saddle, we were able to make good time to the summit. Beautiful sunset on the way down, as we hit the bottom of the trail, it was full dark and the view of Salt Lake City at night was stunning.
