solo, among other hikes up.
10 March 2015: first winter ascent (mild, sparse snow)
After a fairly grueling Lone Peak trip, this was over sooner than expected. When we reached the shoulder, I turned to my buddy and asked "is this really it?" I didn't believe it.
Unfortunately, once back to the Jeep, I left my Oregon GPS on the back bumper and drove away. Half an hour later, I returned, but it was long gone. I left my name, number, email and a plea to return it on the startup screen, but I have not gotten a message yet. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, as it was well over $400. Drat.
All the way down, nearly everybody we passed asked the same question, "how much longer to the shoulder?" I gave up estimating and gave the same answer after a dozen.
First mountain I ever went up without skiis
This was a rough steep hike. The saddle is beautiful and the view from the top is only unique to Mt Olympus. Glad I took a lot of pictures cause I wont be going back up again
when in need of a quick mountain hike
Try to hike it every year. Some of the best views of the valley and the central Wasatch.
Hiked and scrambled with a friend up Mt. Olympus Trail to the south summit, beautiful summer day. Snow was clear enough to only set foot on it once on the summit itself. Few bugs even with lots of runoff and vegetation. View to the rest of the central Wasatch to the south was striking.
Started on a trail not knowing where it went. Somehow got off the trail and climbed the slabs to the summit. Probably not the smartest thing, but hey, kids do dumb things all the time and survive! The challenge of this peak got me hooked on climbing rocks.
Left work at noon and was back to the car before dark. Beautiful view. A little bit of snow up near the top. Nothing major, but it made me take the scrambling section more slowly.
Steep, then steeper. It was fun when it was over. Great mountain. Nice assortment of snakes and birds. Scrub oak on side hills about as thick as I've ever seen.
06/17/06 First summit on the route across Wildcat Ridge. Great day. One angry rattler.
09/28/13 Another trip to the top with a good friend. Skiff of snow. Fall is in and winter is on the way.
09/26/14 With Miko and Nala. They get better and better at scrambling.
01/08/15 Wore snowshoes from the second stream all the way to the summit.
02/20/17 with Michael
Nice steep grade on this 3,5 miles trail with a beautiful view over the Salt Lake City. Gorgeous weather hiking in the t-shirt! Last third of the hike in the snow up to 3 feet still warm enough for the shirt.
Guert's Ridge (5.5 II) 8/2011, Normal route 8/1997. Joseph Bullough is a stud!

06/05/2010 as part of WildCat Rigde with WMC Club,
07/16/11(Wildcat Ridge to Reynolds Peak)
01/26/12 Took 2 hours 3 mins to the top, RT was 3:15 mins My dog Nebo's first ascent of Olympus.
02/25/12 Took 1 hr 44 mins to summit. At the summit I meet up with Joe Bullough, and a bunch of others, for his 400th summit. Congrats Joe! You are the god of Olympus
11/05/12 Despite not having summited a mountain in 2 months I still put up my own PR. Took 1 hr 39 mins from the car to summit.
01/.../13 up the standard route with friends
03/25/13 via Guert's Ridge with snow... That Slabby ridge is HARD to climb when wet and covered in snow... in boots.
05/27/13 Via Kamp Ridge. My favorite route up the Mountain I think. We continued to the Goddess Traverse and descended the main trail
9/30/13 via Kamp Ridge. Freed the whole way with a descent of the west slabs
12/26/13 via main trail with Stef S. It was her first winter ascent
00/00/14 via main trail with nebo and natasha
00/00/14 via main trail with Sam
02/12/17 via main trail solo
Beautiful hike with beautiful weather. Fun scrambling @ top!
I solo hiked it, because it had to be done.
WORST.TRAIL.EVER. 7 miles of stair master climbing. Second time on the summit. I wonder why I did it again. Hurts the knees. Saw some tarantulas, sunset photos from the saddle were spectacular.
Hiked with Jon W. Both our first ascent of Oly and maybe the last. We made summit in under 3 hrs but it was a tough stair master session. We had just gotten laid off from Fidelity Investments a few days prior. Good view of the valley! Had some trouble finding the trail back down initially but a good scramble!
#2. 7/29/15 - Solo trail run attempt. Got lost toward the top. Too damn hot.
This route is a little bit slabby!
