Went up Pompey then over to Pleasant via the Lanum loop. There was an ancient apple tree near the trail junction/campsite in the col between the mountains and there is a signed water point nearby as well. There was some evidence of a recent forest fire but the blazes have all been recently repainted on the trail. Two hours and thirty six minutes for the loop on a clear fall day.
My brother and I did the Henry Lanum trail loop and then went up Cole Mountain after. Mount Pleasant was an easy hike, with great views from the top. We checked out the views to both east and west. Pompey's summit is a few yards into the woods from the trail, but easily discernible.
Excellent views from the summit
A nice hike and a great summit area. The Catawba rhododendrons that cover the upper areas were beginning to bloom and the pink azaleas were still in bloom - really beautiful.
Hiked with a group in Fall of 2002. Classic Blue Ridge terrain.
This was my first Appalachian Mountain! Wonderful area with great views...hiked it with my best hiking buddy.
