This was an easy, enjoyable stroll from Mt. Agassiz.
Several summits when I lived in California. My favorite of all Desolation Peaks. Great table top rock on summit to sit and enjoy the views.
Went on an overnight with my parents to Twin Lakes. Dayhiked up to Mt Price(without knowing it). One of my first peaks as a lad, got me hooked.
Started at Wrights Lake and headed up the trail to Grouse, Hemlock and Smith Lakes. After arriving at Smith Lake, I left the trail and rounded the south side of the lake, then climbed to the ridge above the SE side of Smith Lake. Dropped into a basin west of Price but decided to hop back over the ridge and summit from the SW slope. Great views!!
Living in Lake Tahoe and having the summers off from teaching afforded me months to explore the nearby mountain. The Crystal Range is positioned just right to see the Desolation Wilderness and the gentle dropping hills of the western slope. Due to its remoteness, Price is not crowded and has a great view with interesting terrain.
Fairly straightforward climb in mixed class 2/3 conditions over varied terrain (snow, slabs, scree) from Lyon's Lake. Summitted with arohr.
Ascended from Smith Lake, then to the North Ridge, which was highly enjoyable. Then on to Agassiz and back to the car for a dandy day. PICS
Climbed this as part of the nine-peaks Desolation Death March.
