Best campsite I've ever had  Sucess!

The 4wd road is so much worse than advertised, i was incredibly nervous driving my bulky FJ. Thought about parking at the switchback campsites along the road but decided to check up higher. The chalet at the end of the road was absolutely incredible. Very spacious, amazing views, and surprisingly clean. Kept us dry during a night storm. The sky started to cloud up a bit when we were at the summit, and the lightning strike memorial wasn't too comforting. But I would highly recommend braving the long winding, exposed road just to stay in the Chalet for a night.

Princeton  Sucess!

Darn, the 4wd road is a bit scarier than advertised, but alas, the trallhead at 11000 was much better than doing it from 9.

Tough Drive, Easy climb  Sucess!

Good weather and hardly any wind to support a late 9:30 start for this short hike. Drive up to radio towers is narrow and my Subaru enjoyed using its AWD and Anti-lock systems.

The first part of trail from the road at 12,000' is through an idea meadow that quickly turns into talus! No false summit on this one. 3hrs up and 2hrs down.

It was my first..

Mount Princeton was by first 'real' mountain I climbed.. Looking back, it was a big undertaking for my dad to take me, then 11 years old and my 15 year old cousin from Ohio up their first 14er's.

Saw a mountain lion up close  Sucess!

Headed up the southeast ridge of peak; when reaching the south sub-summit of this beautiful peak, I spied a large mountain lion sitting right on the summit. Unbelievable, and thrilling as this was the first of these animals I'd ever seen. Of course I waited until he was good and ready to leave and then completed my climb. The lion only moved a couple hundred yards down the north slope from the summit. He sat and watched me on the summit, then when I left, he actually returned back to the true summit. Just an amazing day all the way around.

New Years 2002  Sucess!

Two of us, me and a novice hiker, summited Mt. Princeton at 1 am on new years eve. The extra hour was due to 50 mph winds at the ridge line causing us to use "alternate" routes out of the wind. At midnight we looked east to see the Ad-A-Man club launching their fireworks on Pikes Peak far in the distance.

Standard route starting at 12,000  Sucess!

Started from Denver at 4 am, carpooled with 2 others to the trail head 3 hours away. Rough 4WD road most of the way but the xterra handled it like a champ. Parked at 12,000 ft. and hit the trail at 8:15AM. Hiked along the ridge and to the summit of 14,197 ft. Mount Princeton. Made the summit at 11:30AM. Backtracked and made it back to the car around 3 PM. Weather held all day, perfect.

East Ridge  Sucess!

Went to the top from the radio towers before driving back to Fort Collins for an evening shift. Lots of talus on this one. The most memorable part of the trip was the guy at the radio towers who told me that I couldn't park there because he had a buddy coming up in the morning who was going to need a place to park.

13 Miles Roundtrip  Sucess!

Nice hike from the "Main Trailhead". Last 2 miles of rock scrambling was nice for awhile, got old on the way down. Cool mountain, great views, think if I ever do it again I will start at the radio towers and cut over 6 miles off. Hiked with my Dad.

Quick hike  Sucess!

Princeton was a great, short trip on the way home from Colorado Springs. It was a fun heap of mostly consolidated boulders and scree typical of Colorado 14ers in the Collegiate Peaks range.

Got a lift up the road - yay!  Sucess!

And, for about half it, down the road... With Megan Berry. A dull hike on the main drag somewhat enlivened by coming off down the ridge and over "Tigger Pk".

A beauty from a distance.  Sucess!

What a great mountain from a distance but once on that non-stop boulder/talus pile it's not that impressive. Good day, nice weather and redemtion because we were weathered out in May. Not a peak I need to go up again though.

Hell hath no fury...  Sucess!

...Like a 14er in a summer storm. Summited at 11am under mostly clear skies. One hour later it was black skies, thunder, lightening, and then marble hail for at least 30 minutes. Felt bad for the people standing on the summit in it, two of which appeared to be rocking Nike minimalist gym shoes and no jackets. To each their own. It was 41 degrees when we got back to the car, 4k feet below the summit. I should mention that I took a 2wd 4runner to the radio towers at 10.5k feet. They say the road is 4wd, but all that is required is decent clearance. It was not a terrible drive as long as it was dry. Descending on two inches of hail was less enjoyable, but still made it fine.

No more postholing!  Sucess!

Pleased to say no need for spikes and no more postholing! Road was quite accessible in my Outback. Car-camped just past the communication towers. Very windy when you get over that first ridge, but then the wind dissipated. Windy again when I descended, at the same place, makes me wonder if it's one of those wind tunnel phenomena there - so hang in there if it happens to you! Great day otherwise, and the summer hikers are coming out now - busiest summit I've had all year so far (except for Pikes).

E Ridge  Sucess!

solo in September, an easy hike with the pretty Aspen leaves changed in full yellow and a few inches of snow towards the summit.
