North Ridge, II, 5.4  Sucess!

Penelope and I soloed the North Ridge (except for the rap) from the south end of Sawtooth Lake in September 2019. The approach was great via the slabs above the lake and the scramble was on great quality rock with clean ridge climbing all the way. The rap had several decent slings (we used our 30 meter, 8 mm rope to rap it) and the ridge above was a nice class 4 with steps of easy 5th. Great alpine outing. The tail (the descent) is what got us. If you have never been up the regular route PLEASE NOTE-- It is extremely difficult (if not impossible) to find the descent from the summit. It would be prudent to check the regular SE Ridge route prior to climbing this North Ridge. If anyone has GPS points for the descent route, please post it...

SE Ridge - East Face  Sucess!

My second time up Regan as one of 9 summits during an amazing 4-day backpacking trip in the Sawtooths. Camped at Lake 8271’, then did a morning climb up the southeast ridge approach. The exposed east face is thrilling and keeps the heart pumping. The crux is probably the route-finding during the down climb. Trip Report

Awesome Scramble!  Sucess!

Such a fun scramble up the SE ridge. This was my first true class 4 scramble and I definitely want to do a lot more like it! No pen/pencil in the summit register so make sure to bring your own.. Amazing views from the summit.

Classic Scramble  Sucess!

Camped at lake just south of Lake 8271. Took the SE ridge up. Fun scramble and route finding at the summit block.

Not Quite Solo

Tried inventing a route for myself without reading this page or any guide, guessed wrong and got pinned by that Notch along the Northern ridge. Got a nice view anyway and the camping was very fine. Eyed that SE ridge on the way down and wondered what I'd been thinking, but a fellow I met at Sawtooth Lake told me he had done that North Ridge I was pointing out and the notch was navigable. Only with gear, to be sure.

Not sure the route. A lot of scree and ridge hopping.  Sucess!

Backpacked in and camped between the two lakes. Hiked Mount Regan the 2nd day with my dog. First summit I had done and haven't stopped.

North Ridge  Sucess!

Long Day on the North Ridge. Fun climb up, very tiring descent via the SE ridge route.

North ridge  Sucess!

A bit loose up to the ridge but then a nice scramble on pretty solid rock up to the notch. A short abseil into the notch and a short steep wall back out proves to be the crux. Enjoyable route but descent was a bit loose and tiring.

God knows what route  Sucess!

No register entries since SawtoothSean and Super Dave's. I did a bunch of trouser-filling loose climbing to get to the ridge the wrong way, then a bit more to get to the big snowfield, but other than that... fun day! Trip report

No Snow  Sucess!

With Super Dave on a warm October day. This route is a classic scramble with an easy trail approach and fairly solid scramble to the base of the summit block. From there the route is really fun and involves some ledges and ramps with big drop offs. The summit log was missing (not the container), but luckily I had replacement materials. After this we did Pt 9486 and Alpine Peak in a big loop.
