Late afternoon hike  Sucess!

Did this one along with point 5782 which two of the local ranchers were calling Mountain Lion (this was also what was mentioned in a summit register on top of 5782). If anyone is heading there the register on top of Riley needs a note pad or paper. I walked up from the dirt road, over Mountain Lion, and then across the ridge on to Riley. The return was via the valley below in the dark for a 5.5 hour hike. Cox will have to wait for a return trip as I didn't have the energy to pull off a triple in the dark.

Harder than I expected  Sucess!

Really was worth the trip. Impressive views. Fair warning, the summit registry was moved out of the rock pile which was guarded by an enormous Desert Tarantula. I'm not a fan of spiders, but I really enjoyed the trip anyway. Thanks for the tips rayray.

Long day  Sucess!

Sick but still hiking because that's what I like to do. There were lots of rocks and we didn't find the benchmark. From the summit there were great views of Kilbourne and Hunts Hole.

Where's the love for Mt. Riley?  Sucess!

My daughter and I were the only visitors to Riley in 2007. This is a classic desert peak that, because of its sub-6k summit and isolation, probably doesn't garner the attention of other peaks. Prominence alone makes Riley worthwhile, and the views are great. Very satisfying summit! The sun wasn't cooperative though and waited until we left the summit to break through the cloud cover.
