Lots of snow!  Sucess!

Wally came up from Phoenix and we hiked up Mt. Rose. Had been waiting for enough snow to melt to make an ascent...we still spent about 1/3 of the hike in snow fields. Yet another beautiful day in the Lake Tahoe Basin area. Ran into "Bob" age 91, still hiking...onward, upward. Amazing.

Fourth NV CoHP In Three Days  Sucess!

After successfully summiting Boundary Peak, Mount Grant, and Mount Davidson the previous two days, we had enough time in the morning hours to hike to the summit of Mount Rose before needing to fly back to Washington. Great trail, and great views from the summit area. I hiked over to nearby Church Peak, afterwards.

Kind of Tough...But Awesome Views!  Sucess!

Just a few snowfields in the shade before the waterfall in the meadows area. Took me 2 hours and 20 mins to reach the top and then 2 hours on the button to hike down. It gets tough after the meadows when you turn the corner and hike straight up. The switchbacks after that gives you a bit of a rest, but still breathing hard!

renoite classic  Sucess!

I go up every other year in the summer. Good times! I think I've found a reliable ski partner this year, so I'll be able to ski it this winter.

Summer and Winter  Sucess!

Summited twice:
Summer of '07 was easy, 2 hours to the summit in a tee shirt and trail running shoes.
Winter '08 was 10hrs of snowshoeing round trip and bitter cold, but I loved every minute of it. This is the trip that shifted my view of the mountains from casual enjoyment to seeking an active challenge.

3x  Sucess!

Third time up, snowshoe trip along with Church Peak and Mount Snowflower. Very cloudy until about noon, then tons of sun. Very enjoyable day.

Second trip January 22, 2011:
Unplanned events forced me down the mountain before midday and missed out on the other objective (Snowflower) for the afternoon. Did the full trip the next day.

First trip January 21, 2007:
Tried to hike this directly from the highpoint of 431 on Jan 20, but deep snow and slow going forced us to turn back before we got too far. I was determined to do this in January, so went back the next day and started 300 feet lower. With less traversing it was much easier, and made an enjoyable day of it.

Night climb  Sucess!

Mt. Rose Trail, 4th time, second by trail/without much snow. The moon was nearly full so we hardly used lights, even though the clouds were building. 4.5 hours with 1 on top.

Tourist Trail (3x)  Sucess!

Up the new tourist trail with the usual 40mph wind at the top.
(With the usual crowd of horribly underdressed-for-the-conditions folks on the ridge)

Pics are here.

Day Hike  Sucess!

This was a very crowded hike on the 4th of July weekend. The hike itself is moderately easy. The challenge was getting around the out of shape people.

SE Ridge  Sucess!

Never would have known about this trail without SP! Lots of bushwacking at the bottom of the actual slope, but cool route overall. Had lunch on church peak cause there was a mob on top of Rose.

SE ridge route - mixed bag  Sucess!

Made it to the summit and camped out overnight just below treeline. Beautiful, calm conditions all the way to the summit, mountain wind picked up during the night. Never found the "bridge" mentioned across Galena Creek, so ended up crossing on fallen logs. The willows (?) at the beginning of the trail (which was hidden in snow) are so infuriating that I would never do this climb again. The views of the lake from the summit are stunning, but they only reveal themselves at the very end - that side is hidden for most of the ascent. Freeway noise is present for a good part of the climb too.

Some parts of the climb were brown, but there were snowfields that you could link for most of the ascent. The snowshoes stayed on the pack - not really needed at any point, kicked steps throughout.

A good experience, but not one to repeat. No comparison to the breathtaking Tallac climb, for example.
