Summited with my fiancé and my mom. Mom has experienced knee soreness on this hike prior, vowed to never go again, but she wanted to attempt it one more time with me! I gave her my trekking poles and some IB profen up top and she did not have any pain this day! Really great view of Tahoe and Reno from the top, would love to come back and do some backpacking in this area. Afterwards they headed straight down while I snagged Church Peak and caught up with them on the trail.
Not exact date, just a nice way to build an appetite before heading down to incline for some Tito's rotisserie
Nice views of Tahoe with an easy access summer or winter
#1 10-27-17 Solo. Bluebird day, almost no wind on the summit. 2+04 up. Many others were enjoying the ideal fall weather. A few icy stretches on shaded parts of the trail but caution made everything safe. My 14th Nevada CoHP.
Mount Rose via New Mount Rose Trail. Day trip. 2,200 ft elevation gain. Party of 3. About a foot of snow and slush covering the trail.
Took the standard way up, there were some large patches of snow below the waterfall, but nothing difficult and the consequences were trivial. This is my first peak in the area and I'm so impressed by the views.
This is a great hike, but unfortunately there was so much smoke and haze I could only barely make out Lake Tahoe.
7/24/2015---Mount Rose: Nevada-----10,776’
Uncle Roger and I hiked this on an absolutely perfect day. Even in July the elevation and wind on the mountain makes for cool air. I wore a hoodie the entire way up and didn’t ever break a sweat.
I wasn’t in good shape for this hike, but I never really needed to stop and take a break; granted, Roger was taking all the breaks so I didn’t end up being the wimpy one.
o Begin at 8,800’ and end at 10,776’
o Approximately 2,000’ of elevation gain over 5 miles.
o 10 miles roundtrip
did this hike in the afternoon after flying into Reno. I was surprised by quite a bit of thunder in the area although it never got too close and it never ended up raining. Great views of Reno and Lake Tahoe of course
My dad and I completed the 10 mile hike in about 3 hours. It was our last morning in the area and we had a plane to catch in the afternoon, so we decided to try and reach the summit in a timely fashion. It was definitely a nice hike, I remember the trail being relatively level until the last 1.5 miles which was at a solid incline.
Very nice hike. The first half of the hike to the waterfall is very pleasant due to the tree coverage. Once you start the last ascend up the mountain, it becomes pretty exposed and can get very warm.
Great snowshoeing hike with my brother. Did a round trip in 4 hours. Beautiful view on a clear day!!
Very windy and cold, three inches of snow on summit. Made for a wonderful break from the long hot summer. Also, encouraging for the drought conditions in Nevada and California.
Along with Mt. Houghton, Church, and Relay peaks.
Nice long loop with meetup group.
4th time up peak. Also with Todd, Solo, and John.
Linked Mt. Rose, Mt. Houghton via East Ridge, and Relay Peak yesterday. Great day, mostly quite easy class 1, but with some fun class 2-3 scrambling right in the middle of the day to mix things up. A nice way to get some decent mileage with fantastic views throughout.
With Ranger... Nice folks on top... :)
Warm-up climb prior to Sierra Challenge 2014
Tommey and I did this as a test of my newly injured ankle.
Fun day of hiking, from Mt. Rose summit took the Relay Road, cross country from due south of Tamarack, up and over the peak, back down to Relay Road, up to Relay Peak where I scrambled up the last 300 feet rather than walking the road, then took the new trail to Mt. Houghton, then cross country down from Houghton to the saddle with Mt. Rose, picked up the Mt. Rose trail here, took that until it was time for the easy cross country to Church Peak, then rejoined the Mt. Rose trail to the summit of Mt. Rose. Took the Mt. Rose trail all the way back down. TR will be posted HERE.
Can't believe the number of people on this scenic walkup. I quit counting at about 189 people on the trail once I got back to the waterfall.
Go early and maybe you'll have the summit to yourself. Or don't go on a summer weekend
