We hiked Mt Sanitas as a loop; carried Lauren up and most of the way down.
Nice hike.

Nice Quick Hike
Nice quick hike on a short day in Boulder. Views are nice from the top. Did the Valley Trail, to East Ridge then back on Mount Sanitas trail. I think the reverse of that would have been a better route.

Circuit Training Mountain
In approach shoes this hill is a stairmaster with good boulder problems every 1/4 mile.

Convenient!
I happened to be in Boulder, so I climbed it. It was a sunny warm day in January. The Mt. Sanitas Trail was dry, but the East Ridge Trail had some icy stretches. I managed it in running shoes, though. I previously climbed Mt. Sanitas on 4 March 2010.

Dakota Ridge Tr to East Ridge Tr to Mt Sanitas Tr
I had hiked the "Mt Sanitas Loop" many times, but this was the first time that I ventured north from the Mt Sanitas Loop highpoint to the 6863 foot summit of Mt Sanitas. My new favorite way to hike Mt Sanitas is to take the Dakota Ridge Tr to the East Ridge Tr, and then descend the Mt Sanitas Tr. Although the East Ridge Tr is steeper than the Mt Sanitas Tr, I find that the Dakota Ridge Tr provides a nice warm up, whereas the Mt Sanitas Tr has you stair climbing right from the trailhead (which gave me some back issues one season).

My wife and I headed up into the mist after feeding at the historic Chautauqua Dining Hall. Expecting a low crowd day because of the weather, we encountered barking dogs and crying babies on the summit. Muddy and slick on the descent.
