Made the summit solo since my daughter had to turn back with a sore ankle. Will be back in two weeks to do it again with some Boy Scouts.

Blank Gulch TH, Ascend Shavano E Slopes to Tabeguache S Slopes
When we began the mountains were covered by clouds. We broke out the Shavano saddle to look over a white world pierced only by high mountain peaks. What a sight! By the time we reached the Shavano summit, all the couds had burned off for a great view in all directions.

Route Climbed:Blank Gulch - Shav.&Tab.
Summited a sluggish 4 and a half hours after leaving my car. Found my second wind on the ridge to Tabeguache. Saw a male mountain goat crossing the "angel of shavano" route. The angel is disappearing fast and I avoided it. I wish I hadnt! Several climbers got up it without post-holing. Beautiful weather and little snow. The summit was crawling with marmots..watch your food.

Angel to summit & Tabeguache
Great climb w/ Dave from Florida. His first Colorado mountain. Snow conditions were great on the Angel, but warming snow below timberline made for some miserable late night postholing on the way back.

WOW. Starting in the dark with headlamps was kinda creepy (but fun) in the trees. First ones on the summit and then traversed over to Tabeguache. Cows and bulls surrounded our car when we came down. Crazy!
First tried this one in November of 1999. I turned around when I got to treeline. The snow and wind were terrible. Tried it again in August of 2000 with success. Only 4 people up there. I forgot my camera somewhere near the top, that sucked. I ran down from the saddle back to the TH. Did pretty good!
I had to pull over as soon as I turned onto US24 though, I wasn't feeling good and threw up. I was fine after that!
