Some woman who turned around claimed winds 80+mph winds, but we caught the worst of it only in one spot. Neat old mine and fun glissade chute.
My roommate and I went to go give this a shot. He wasn't acclimatized well and stopped before the saddle. The saddle was covered in snow and I got to make it a small solo snow climb and play with my ice axe. A few small feet of vertical snow climbing to get over the lip and onto the saddle. The rest of the trail was fun. Slid down the snow when finished. My roommate did some ice ax training too
CMC hike. We started from Leavick, but left the road after about 1.75 miles and headed up the south slopes. The weather was pretty lousy all day: the mountain was socked in, but we did find the summit. It was pretty windy and cold, and we had some snow. We decided to forgo Gemini due to the weather, which was good, because we heard some thunder, and we had to deal with unrelenting graupel on the way down. There's still enough snow for some glissading, and one of our number had a boot sucked off in the snow, but he was able to retrieve it. This was my 2nd time on Sherman.
3rd time up, this time a spring climb from Iowa Gulch in combination with Mt Sheridan. Road still closed at winter closure and route mostly snow until just below Sherman-Sheridan saddle.
Climbed multiple times
Should have tagged Gemini but I was ready to be warm.
a fun climb and a good view of Leadville
Hiked/jogged up Sherman with my sister who was recovering from ankle surgery. Continued on to Gemini, a fun, less crowded side trip.
We saw a lot of people coming up from the east side but we were the only souls going up/down the west side (Iowa Gultch).
Cold, high winds, and LOTS of snow!! Had the whole area to myself. Made a trip over to the Gemini Peaks.
Scouts did well.
From Iowa Gulch. Wind was terrible but was nice on the summit. Nice hike, to many people on the summit but thats typical for a colorado 14teener.
Clear, warm December with rkymtn. Windy at the summit, but a pleasant day.
Amber's first 14er.
Great 14er... pretty setting, easy access, unique terrain. Good stuff
quick little hike with my 10 year old and 8 year old sons, it was the first hike up a 14er for the younger son after driving up Evans and Pikes Peak
If weather is ok good for afternoon walk
Did this with a number of SPers on a chilly and very windy day. Quick 14er with the trail open all the way to the summer gate and our choice to head straight up the side of the mountain.
Winter ascent 1-19-2013.
