Route Climbed: 4 Mile Creek TH Date Climbed: 8/14/2001  Sucess!

This was the 2nd of 5 fouteeners that my partner and I hiked over 5 days. It is possible to drive further up the road in a passenger car than the Leavick townsite, as is stated in the Roach book 'Colorado's Fourteeners'. This cuts a couple of miles off the hike. The weather was borderline bad this day, we had visibility of about 100 feet on the summit, with 40-50 mph winds. this made for lots of frost on the clothes, and ice in the mustache. Very few others on the mountain that day! This is a great climb - lots of interesting mining ruins along the way.

Route Climbed: From Iowa Gulch Date Climbed: 08-13-2001  Sucess!

Nice and easy route. Still, that did not keep me from breaking my ankle on the way down. Ouch!

Ski descent with full alpine gear resulting in the largest blisters I've ever had or want to have...thank God for AT gear! Really fun skiing through the old mine ruins at the bottom.

Route Climbed: West Slopes  Sucess!

I have climbed Sherman twice, once in summer and once in winter. As a summer climb it is quite easy, however in winter it can be much longer and harder!

Because we intended to bag four 14ers on the same day, my friend Duane and I decided on the shortest route with the least elevation gain for Mt. Sherman. It was the first of the day, the other three being Democrat, Lincoln, and Bross. Duane succeeded with all four, but I was completely wasted by three nights of little or no sleep in the previous week, so I was lucky to return to the vehicle after summitting Democrat for only my second of the day. On Sherman we hiked to the southwest ridge at the Sherman-Sheridan Saddle and ascended the ridge to the summit.
