Started Late  Sucess!

I started this hike very late and ended up coming down the trail by cell phone lights. Once I got to the car I realized i had 4 flashlights IN MY CAR! I've learned a lot since then.

Just to check it off the list  Sucess!

I usually avoid super crowded trails, but it was raining so I figured it would be a good day to avoid said crowds. There were still plenty of people... On the trail I saw: a guy hiking in aquasocks, a guy hiking in flip flops, a completely out of shape lady crying on the side of the trail, a couple kids blasting "I believe I can fly" with a portable music set up, shirtless guy (in 40 degree weather), plenty of people wearing cotton (it was raining) and many other interesting folks. The best part was the haystack scramble. Great class 3 scramble! even in the rain! :) Glad I went, but I probably won't be back.

Sunny and warm(ish)  Sucess!

Crowds weren't bad on the way up due to an early-enough start, insane on the way down, but, because it was sunny for the second day in a row after a stretch of positively evil weather, the masses of people were all in really good, friendly moods. Crowded but fun, and, oh, did I mention the sunny weather?!

A different perspective  Sucess!

Ascended to the summit of Si via the Teneriffe fire road, essentially coming in from the northeast. I would not recommend this route to anyone- it's a tedious, worthless road slog. The only saving grace was the amazing view of the snow covered Haystack from the north- a view most folks never see.

My first summit  Sucess!

Got an early start as the sun was coming up. Climbed with 35lbs of water bottles in my pack to condition my legs. Great view from the summit gave way to fog, wind, and clouds shortly after getting there.

Snowy Fall Hike

Snow started about 1 mile from the haystack. too much ice on the haystack to go up, so the viewpoint had to do. Beautiful views and a fun hike.

Everyone's mountain  Sucess!

Who in the Seattle are hasn't climbed this summit. Everyone and their brother has hiked this trail way too many times. I'm set with doing it just once.

Rockin Hike  Sucess!

I wasn't keeping track of dates of peaks climbed when i did this. But i do remember how cool it was. I had lived in seattle and was on vacation with a friend that had never been to the Northwest. We arrived at night from Idaho so they were pretty shocked by all the vegetation. Particularly how big the ferns get and how dizzying it can be looking straight up in the middle of all the trees...

Mandatory Hike  Sucess!

Hiking Si in the winter is slightly more challenging, but it's still "Mt. Sighhh". Overcrowded and not overly-spectacular. Good for conditioning.

The Gold Standard

For anyone living in Seattle, Mt. Si is a close, beautiful hike, and effective for training too. Have gone both light and heavy, in winter and summer. First time remember tons of snow and the Gray Jays on top. My second time, I topped the haystack in poor weather. From the top, a seasoned mountaineer pointed out the different peaks of the Eastern Front of the Olympics, singling out The Brothers, and my future became clear. Notably, saw a family of short-tailed weasels running among the summit rocks in the summer.

just dandy...  Sucess!

One of my first hikes in Washington - remarkably uncrowded ... had to hike out in the dark and rescue some people who didn't have any lights. It gets darker pretty early in the winter, people!!
