"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."

Led the State High Angle CrewLed the WA State High Angle Crew during a fire suppression operation on the steep slopes of Mount Si in the mid 1990's. Fire fighting in a near vertical environment is always a challenge. Want to get back and do a proper trek to the top.

Many ascentsI've climbed to the top of the haystack 3 times now over the past few years. Its a great little scramble, but the hike itself is a bit too popular for me.

trusty SiI have hiked Si so many times I have lost count. Primarily, I use it as a training hike for bigger summer summits.

Haystack is the best partI've hiked this thing too many times. It's a great starter peak but after a while it gets too easy and its always busy on the weekends. Sometimes I used to put on a 40-50lbs pack and go as fast as I could just to make it a little interesting. For training I definitely recommend mailbox peak over this one. Going during the winter when their is snow makes it a little more interesting.

To the trail runner talking about Mailbox PeakMy girlfriend and I climbed Mt. Si on Sunday the 30th and we met you (trail runner talking about Mailbox Peak to a fellow hiker) at the steps just below the summit flats. You had a close fitting beanie and told me that Mailbox was a good training spot for Rainier. If you recognize yourself from the post, email me. I'd like to pick your brain on other mountaineering topics if possible.

Lost trackof how many times I been up this one. I call it the zoo of hiking.
CzechMark - Jan 31, 2011 9:24 pm
Re: Lost trackSame here. Definitely is a zoo. Went up yesterday and had to deal with some college kids in sweatpants running around throwing snowballs and yelling into their cell phones. Definitely the last time I do Si for a while. Next time I do it, It'll be in a crappy weather. Could use a bit more of a challenge and a smaller crowd haha.

Too many times to countUsually done as a run, often times I do repeats when training up for an ultra race. PR: 45 minutes up, 30 minutes down.

Also good off-season and great viewsNo 003, personal climber's log.
Unrelenting and frosty is how I remember this hike, I don't believe I went onto the haystack the first time (March 21, 2008) but made it to the true summit on the second attempt.

Great TimeI can see why they say this trail is good to use for training for Rainier. The view from the top is incredible.
