Beautiful day  Sucess!

Hiked Mt. Si and the Haystack on an unseasonably warm, clear April day. Beautiful views all around, but certainly very crwded. The Haystack was a surprisingly fun, challenging scramble. I would never want to touch it if the rocks were wet.

Training Day  Sucess!

Have used this as a training hike multiple times and it has become a default during winter months.

Today offered high winds and great views.

Hiked in a 30-pound pack, working up to 60 pounds. Today was just over 2 hours up, 1 hour 45 minutes down. Hoping to whittle that down to a 90-minute climb by June.

Very strong winds

Left the trail head at 8am and reached Haystack Basin at around 10:15am met by snow and high winds. Attempted to summit Haystack but was turned back due to wind and ice on the scramble (with crampons). Some rain and wind on the way down but the trail was in good shape. Made it back to the car around 1:00pm.

Great Views  Sucess!

Another great place to train for higher mountains. I did this a lot with my heavy pack while training for Aconcagua. Just a note. It can be substantially colder on top than down low in the late late Fall. It can also be icy and you might want some micro-spikes for the upper part. The haystack is a fun scramble, and I did it, but being a basic hiker it made me a bit uncomfortable coming down.

Crowded summit  Sucess!

The break point before the Haystack was quite crowded, but we had the true summit all to ourselves

Thunderstorm  Sucess!

Beautiful foggy scenery on the way up, crazy thunderstorm on the way down. Very enjoyable!

A nice trail on a nice day  Sucess!

I was visiting my sister in Seattle and wanted a half day hike, so this fit the bill. I was expecting crazy crowds but since it wasn't a weekend, it wasn't too bad. Perfect weather and great views. Scrambling up Haystack was fun, coming back down not so much! A good day.

Hobbit Step  Sucess!

Drought year, no snow in early March. Nice sunny day. Took a group of scouts up the Haystack, they had fun with it. Named the last little pitch to the summit the "Hobbit Step" after one of them. Support Team Sushi hiking on the trail far below, but within radio contact.

Hot and Sunny  Sucess!

Relaxing jaunt to the summit and beyond. Made some four legged furry friends on the ridges to the northwest.

Loved it  Sucess!

I really enjoyed the hike. We went up the old trail to avoid the mob of people going up and down and that was a good call. It was very foggy once we reached the summit so I saw nothing but cloud. I will have to do it again as I hear the view is amazing. I have seen the view from Rattlesnake mountain which is just across the valley.

Worm Flows route  Sucess!

There were around 200 people with permits for the mountain today. I parked at the marble mount sno park last night and there were about 40 vehicles there for the night. Started climbing at 0330 to beat the crowds and I think I was the first person to get to the true summit for the day. Beautiful weather with views as far as Mt Jefferson.

skipped the Haystack

Visibility about twenty feet, slushy conditions, and just not feeling great - had spent almost four hours hiking up the trail to the base of the haystack.
Did have fun hanging out with a swarm of grey jays who tried to steal my lunch, and one pika that was afraid of the jays.

One Of My Favorite Dayhikes  Sucess!

Easily accessible off of the highway, Mount Si is an absolute blast of a hike, which suddenly turns into a challenging (but not TOO challenging) scramble at the Haystack. Highly recommended. Also, stop by Twede's in North Bend for cheap, delicious calories either before or after (or both!) and you've got yourself a perfect dayhike.

...  Sucess!

I use this hike for training. I don't actually like it. Too popular.
