Very cold and windy, not much snow, the East side has some very steep looking terrain and a fragile looking cornice.
Looking for a quick peak on the way home.
Good first non-technical 13er
hiking with Abby
Easy hike up to the summit, though the false summit was kind of a drag, then headed on over to Cupid.
My first 13er. Probably a great starter mountain and trainer. It kicked my butt, especially on the way down, but this is exactly what I was looking for on my path to getting in better shape and training for some 14ers.
Forgot the camera. Whoops.
Skied the NE face. Climbed from Loveland Pass, left a car at Bakerville. 1700' of climbing, 3400' of skiing. Nice later April spring powder.
Have climbed this route a few times. A nice peak with a super close approach. Best when deserted. (off season)
This a great, short hike for getting into the winter summit game. I'll never forget my trip. My partner returned to the car after about 20 minutes because it was so cold and windy. I pressed on alone. When I got to the summit I really had to pee and had no choice but to drop my drawers in the bitter cold. The wind knocked me over in the process and I bruised my tailbone pretty badly. I think my butt was frozen though because I didn't feel it until after the hike! I still laugh when I think about it.
Great place to when you only have an hour or two to get away...or to get a quick workout in before heading down to A-basin.
Hiked it in the afternoon. Nobody was there. Very warm and beautiful.
This was my 8th time climbing Sniktau. Many of those were in the winter. Access is easy from Loveland Pass. The dependable wind usually keeps much of the snow blown from the easy ridge.
This was my first time climbing Sniktau. Easy year round access has been the reason for repeats.
Nice short hike; but cold and windy.
freezing cold - very poor visibility - my glasses iced up on both sides and my car had to be jumpstarted by AAA - great day :)
Just last month I turned around at Point 13,152 because I didn't want to find out how much worse it could get. This Sunday was no stroll in the park but it was at least reasonable and much more pleasant than the ski traffic back to Denver.
Wife, dog, and I. Great day.
A surprisingly steep first pitch and a 24-hour elevation change of over 12,000ft made this a memorable first 13er! Wonderful weather, sweeping summit views, and a fantastic sunrise over Pt. 12,915 didn't hurt either.
