Hiked up Spalding on my way to Evans.
Linked up the ridges from
Bierstadt and the Sawtooth over to Spalding and then on to evans. About an 8 hour day
After climbing Gray Wolf, we traversed to Spalding and then returned to Guanella Pass. I can't believe I didn't take a picture of Mount Evans north face from the summit! It's such a magnificent view, argh!
Did this one on the way to Mount Evans. Great views.
Summitted on the way to Evans, nice summit.
What a great little climb/hike. Talked with a few climbers who had just come up the snowfield on the west end of Summit Lake. The views were great. Went on to finish up the "Mile in the Sky" and visited Evans' summit.
I was trying to bag Evans and as I came up to the ridge Spalding was just "there" so I did it. Somewhat uneventful except for getting lots of mountain goat shots.
Climbed this one on my way from California to Virginia, wish I had more time to climb in Colorado but family and business was calling. I was happy I got to do this one, the views were awesome not a cloud in the sky. A quick ,easy and scenic peak.
I met up with my girlfriend in Denver for a little climbing. We decided to bag Evans as well as Mount Spalding via the Summit Ridge Route (Grade I, Class 2) from Summit Lake on the Mt. Evans Road. Obviously, we did not obey the 14’er 3000’ foot rule on this climb, but taking the ridge line and bagging two peaks compensated in our efforts for lack of gain on the climb. I highly recommend this route as it affords gorgeous views and solitude sticking with class 2 climbing. The ridge from Summit Lake looks Class 3 but it is in fact Class 2 with a surprisingly well marked path. We left our vehicle at 10:00 AM and started up Spalding’s flanks. Spalding’s summit came quickly at around ~11:15 AM or so. We rounded the ridge line on to Mt Evans and made the summit around 1:30 PM. Our descent was down the scree slopes of Evans (normal route) and took another hour and half down to put us back to the car at around 3:00 PM. We summited both Spalding and Evans on Saturday, July 12, 2003.
Hiked to the summit of this 'unofficial' 13er with my fiancée over a Fourth of July trip to the Centennial State.
We hiked this from Summit Lake one morning and then went over to Evans. A really nice hike with some good views.
My fiancé and I hiked from Summit Lake over Spalding to Evans. The clods obscured any view we might have had. I'm coming back in August to climb some other 14ers, and I'll likely use this route as a warm-up, acclimatization hike. Definitely do this mountain!!
Came over the summit ridge from Evans. Nice hike. Signed the summit register and then descended the other ridge to Summit Lake. For some reason had the whole mountain to myself until I got back to the car.
