Mount Starr  Sucess!

Mono pass is absolutely fantastic. Going up Mt Starr is a slog on sand and loose rocks. The view all but make up for the effort.

Mt. Starr  Sucess!

Went up a loose sandy chute before the trail turned around a corner to Mono Pass and scrambled along the ridge to the summit

Mono Pass  Sucess!

The only way I knew we made the summit was the register can. Summit ridgeline looks the same elevation almost the entire length. Great views of LLV and Mt. Morgan.

Nice, easy hike.  Sucess!

From Mosquitoes Flats, up the East side. Just what I was looking for; a short hike with a summit tag. 4 hours car to car. Coming down the East side on the scree is so fun.

Via Mono Pass  Sucess!

A crew of 15 Santa Clara University students including myself set out for the Eastern Sierras with the Into the Wild club on Friday, Oct. 11. The following afternoon we left our cars at the Little Lakes Valley trail head and backpacked up Mono Pass (views to the South are outstanding). We ditched our packs at the pass and climbed East for half a mile to the top of Mount Starr, arriving just in time to enjoy the sunset from atop the Sierra Crest.

South Ridge  Sucess!

Checked out the South Ridge today, which somehow seems to have escaped the Internet's notice. (Just added a page for it.) A most excellent class-3 climb that I highly recommend. I then sashayed down a wide sandy chute on the East face for a quick and (relatively speaking) decent descent.

Via Mono Pass  Sucess!

6hrs r/t from Mosquito Flats. Loose talus from pass. Next time go way out right and follow ridge line. Summit register at south and north summits.

Mono Pass  Sucess!

Easy half day hike from Mosquito Flat. Fortunately, few mosquitoes, but hordes of people on the trail as the morning wore on, and it was a Tuesday! Very warm day.

From Mono Pass  Sucess!

Slept near the pass the night before, then scrambled up for some nice views of the Little Lakes area. I descended one of the scree gullies leading up to the summit from Mosquito Flat.

From Mono Pass  Sucess!

Nice day hike. Fun scrambling at top. Hard to tell which was the high point, so I climbed them both.
Solo.

Starr  Sucess!

Went up from the trail aiming for the cornice on top of the ridge. Traversed the ridge to the true summit with the register

Nice day  Sucess!

Hiked up to Mono Pass and then straight up the west face to the south summit, while the register was found on the north summit. Descended straight down a very dirty gully on the east side until meeting up with the trail.

From Mono Pass, Descent East Face  Sucess!

Followed use trail from Mono Pass & scrambled through the rocks to the ridge. I think I tagged each high point, thinking it was the summit. Didn't find a register on any of them, but I was in a bit of a hurry and didn't look for long. Followed fun sandy chute down the east face for about 1/2 the elevation, then picked my way through the band of rocky cliffs using short chimneys and chutes. Fun day.

Mono Pass  Sucess!

Ascended via Mono Pass and descended via the East Face. South summit has better views, a more interesting summit block and feels higher than the northern summit. The traverse between the two is class 2/3 and worth doing. Fun outing.

From Mono Pass  Sucess!

Underrated summit in the shadow of giants like Morgan, Abbot, Mills etc. Easy trail to Mono Pass, not so easy slog up the increasingly steep and loose west face. Summit ridge is class 3. Maps and GPS all showing highpoint on north summit, but it's actually on south pinnacle (higher by about 5ft - recorded by GPS in stable weather). Superb views of LLV, Pioneer Basin and all the way to Ritter & Banner. Could even see Lyell peeking between them. Outran a mule train and smoke from the Aspen Fire on the way back.
