Great hike! Not to long, but steep, scrambly, challenging, and incredible! Awesome views, and if you go during Oktoberfest, you can hear the music/yodeling from up there. :)
Over an hour straight of class 3 scrambling fun, what a blast! Me and my wife summited via Cardiff Pass. We both had a blast!
Stay on trail...free climbing wasn't as fun as I thought it would be.

Went up in the morning before work. Nice way to start the day.
08/05/11 - Bagged them both on a cloudless, blustery, mountain goat-filled day.
07/15/12 - With Pauline. Cloudy and cool, no goats though :(
Headed up S slope, picked up trail along ridge. Got rained on a few times and had a painful bushwhacking exit W of Hells Gate. Fun times.
This was the hardest hike to a peak done yet. my sister bruk and my dad started from alta, up to the pass, then up the rocky ridge to the top of Mt. Superior. We had planned on going further to the other higher peak, though dad said the weather was getting worse and Bruk was getting tired. We did go up and over Cardiff peak with the antenna on the way back to alta.
Suicide Chute/South Ridge to Mt. Superior and traverse to Monte Cristo.
Ski tour April
both peaks with Wasatch Mt Club group (most recently).
Quick trip up, 3hrs car to car. Great views and lots of mountain goats.
Ran up the Cardiff Pass trail (as much as possible) from Alta to the Monte Cristo summit in 59 minutes and down in 48. The snow made for some slow going on the way down and I had a butt slide and a slide out coming off the summits that were too close for comfort---especially since I was alone. With the snow, I couldn't find the summit register---dug through the snow forever trying to find it, to no avail. Is there one?
Also saw a lot of mountain goats and followed a group of 4 along the ridge from the summit of superior for a good 5 minutes.
Up Cardiff pass trail, over Superior to Monte Cristo. Very enjoyable half day on red rocks. Good views.
Multiple climbs, always a great, quick peak to climb.
Climbed up to Cardiff Peak and then along the ridge to Superior/MC. Great views of the twin peaks and Lake Blanche. No mountain goats but a fun, short hike.
6/20/15 - saw 6 mountain goats on the return! whiskey in the summit register :)
06/15/06 So much fun going up the headwall in crampons. Thanks Jan for another great adventure in the mountains.
09/15/13 Another great trip different route. Went up from Alta. Met Brendan along the way and we hiked together.
06/23/17: Via Cowboy Ridge. With Brent, Dave and Michael
Twice. First was scramble on East ridge. Stayed true to the ridge to make it more challenging than the trail that has developed. That turned it into a third class. Mountain Goats all over, from trailhead to summit. Second was done via South ridge of Superior. We stayed true to the ridge. Roped up about half way up and kept the rope on to the top, simul-climbing and with only two places of slung natural pro. Had deep snow last 1000 feet to summit. Descent via East ridge.
8:30am start. Snowshoe'd up to Cardiff Pass and booted the ridge to Superior (great boot path already in place). Ridge to Monte Cristo was untraveled, so had to break trail a bit. Beautiful day and fantastic views. Wish I knew how to BC snowboard .... the decent blows when everyone else out there is skiing and boarding down. :)
