Twice. First was scramble on East ridge. Stayed true to the ridge to make it more challenging than the trail that has developed. That turned it into a third class. Mountain Goats all over, from trailhead to summit. Second was done via South ridge of Superior. We stayed true to the ridge. Roped up about half way up and kept the rope on to the top, simul-climbing and with only two places of slung natural pro. Had deep snow last 1000 feet to summit. Descent via East ridge.
8:30am start. Snowshoe'd up to Cardiff Pass and booted the ridge to Superior (great boot path already in place). Ridge to Monte Cristo was untraveled, so had to break trail a bit. Beautiful day and fantastic views. Wish I knew how to BC snowboard .... the decent blows when everyone else out there is skiing and boarding down. :)

Made for a nice half-day outing from trailhead at Alta.
Climbed from Alta with friends
Jan 14, 2005: Climbed the S Ridge with PellucidWombat, Joseph Bullough and GlennMerrill. My first "alpine" climb.
September 24, 2005: Climbed from Cardiff Pass as part of the Cottonwood Ridge Traverse. I reversed the traverse less than halfway so I could make it to work on time, but I got to bag Monte Cristo this time at least.
February 2008: Attempted the S Ridge solo. Poor snow conditions made it a bit more interesting than I expected without crampons. Bailed at the notch and descended one of the chutes to the right (hooked up with Suicide Chute).
12/01/09 With Michael, Christine, and Ryan.
09/27/07 Superior only via S ridge with Michael, Lana, and Christine

The frist time was in March with a friend. The time Solo and much faster ( car to car 4 hours ). What a fantastic ridge.
Climbed these on a vacation passing through Utah, with a friend who lived here.
I've decided the descent from Superior's east ridge is no fun at all

What a great route and a fantastic day. Terrific mix of snow and rock.
And the price was right
Day out skiing with Winslow
Yet another one of my beginner hikes. Unfortunately I only did Mount Superior and was too tired (lazy) to do Monte Cristo. I hadn't really realized the concept of peak bagging yet.
Usually climb them while doing some type of traverse, last climb was on a Cottonwood Ridge Run July 2008.
Beautiful summer day and a welcomed relief from Outdoor Retailer.
Skinned up below the power lines from the church at Alta. Dropped down into a bowl and traversed over another ridge, then caught some turns into a bigger bowl below the North face of Superior. From there we skinned up to the East ridge and booted up to the summit. Skied the chute off the saddle to the East -- great conditions for June!
vanman798 and I got a 6 or 6:30 am start, skinned to Cardiff Pass and a bit beyond, and booted up the ridge to Superior. We left our skis there, put on crampons, and traversed to Monte Cristo and back. Ran into Bob Athey and a couple who had just climbed the south ridge, and then skied the awesome southeast face from the summit, though because of our delay from tagging Monte Cristo, the corn was past its prime and down low was more like mush. I can't wait to ski it again without the side trip to catch it in ideal conditions.
Once a long time ago I also did Superior only in the summer. Nice to have taken care of the unfinished business.
