Fun hike. Beautiful views.
Just a little dusting of snow on the ridge, but VERY cold. 40+ mph wind gust too, should've brought my balaclava.
Very nice views of Tahoe and Fallen Leaf Lake.
Camped at Fallen Leaf Campground the night before.
A thoroughly enjoyable walk, as always. Some rather annoying rodents on the summit.
Excellent route, good practice for the Mountaineers Route on Whitney
Twice in 3 days, during a family vacation at Stanford Sierra Camp: On Monday Sept 17, alone on a beautiful summer day, 3.5 hours roudtrip via the Cathedral Lake trail. Then on Thursday May 20th, with René Renteria, after a snowstorm that lingered into the day. We went up the Cathedral Lakes trail and went down the Glen Alpine / PCT trail, for a 5 hour roundtrip.
A fun glissade, but I want to bring my skis next time.
Climbed Tallac while on stag weekend for a good friend and fellow climber. Great day on a beautiful mountain w/ close friends...followed by many beers. Doesn't get much better!
from Glen Alpine Springs TH. RT 3 hrs 45 mins.
Climbed Tallac as a loop hike from Fallen Leaf Lake. Amazingly I did not see a single other hiker the entire day. Went up via Glen Alpine and down via Cathedral Lake.
Great day for a climb. It was very clear and the views seemed endless. The summit area was a happening place with a lot of people and squirrels.
Simple climb from Gilmore lake, where we spent the night, resulting in a phenominal summit view!
Hiked from the Glen Alpine Trailhead. Camped at Gilmore Lake and hiked to the summit the next morning. Beautiful view, little hazy and windy with lots of little critters running around.
A few notes: (1) LOTS of exposed areas; wear good sun protection; (2) despite elevation, it was pretty darn warm; (3) was expecting more scree-type conditions; just lots and lots of rocks in every size. But a great day had by all.
Climbed Tallac at the tail end of a solo 20+ mile Jacks->Dicks->Tallac talus traverse from Glen Alpine. It was a gorgeous day in every respect. There was an unabashedly curious marmot on the summit that kept me company.
Nice summit. Easy approach via Glen Alpine Trail.
a good climb up and solid ski down. lots of freshies. the summit brought whiteout conditions making for a bit more of an interesting time skiing the bowl. only three other folks on the entire mountain at the time. a great day.
Enjoyed the hike. I started too late in the day though and got caught in the dark on the way back
This hike is Tight!!! My dad and uncle and cousin and myself climbed it a few years ago in july, it has great views! lots of little marmots.
