With La Mosca Lookout & 10607.
Hiked it from The Water Canyon Trailhead (google that) by the CDT. Easy pace made it up in less than an hour. Return trip <30 minutes. Trail is in good condition and very easily followed though there are no markers directing you to the summit per se. subjective distance is less than 1 mile. Great views from the summit, but the hike is mainly in forest right to the summit.
Nice views of the Sandia Mountains.
Hiked again 7/5/17, along with some of Water Canyon.
Realized I never signed the log! Made it on a nice morning in about 1:10.
Took the shorter trail to the top from the saddle at the top of FS453 in between La Mosca overlook and Mount Taylor. Only about .75 mile one way. So quick up and back down but then drove FS239 all the way from Mount Taylor northeast to SAN Luis and US550.
Loved this mountain, this is a great hike to share with your dogs. Spent over an hour on top - ate lunch, did yoga, etc. great chat with some local folks from Acoma.
The camping here is so quiet and serene. We drive just a bit past the trailhead to camp and never saw another vehicle the entire rest of the weekend!
Headed up the wrong FR 193, make sure you make the turn all the way to where the pavement ends. Regardless, left Gooseberry trailhead at 10:30 A.M., summited at noon. Beautiful and quiet hike, nothing too strenuous but the second half is a decent work out. Terrific views, ran into some guy on his 4 wheel drive up there.
I love this event. Thank you to everyone that puts it on. Can't wait to come back next year!
I'm pretty slow ... at the Gooseberry TH @ 0700, on top by 1030.
Chased off the peak by dark clouds, and lots of lightning/thunder that hastened my descent to treeline. But what can one expect in July in New Mexico?
Hiked up from the Gooseberry Springs TH, then ran down on a beautiful fall day. Nifty peak, good trail all the way.
Ran the 1st annual Mt. Taylor 50k race that has the summit at 24 miles. Great race with friends!
Took the Gooseberry route this morning. An enjoyable hike, nothing to add to previous reports except that dirt road to trailhead is barely passable by passenger car. I made it in my Corolla but would not try it again.
Started at 1PM at the Gooseberry trail head. I reached the summit about 2:30 PM. Note I got off the trail and came up the west ridge of Mount Taylor. This shortened the trip considerably. Stayed at the top for a while to enjoy the sunshine before heading to La Mosca lookout. To get back I reversed my trip heading back over Mount Taylor.
The trail is very well taken care of and I enjoyed the trip thoroughly.
Went up after some fresh snow on Saturday morning. It's really a beautiful hike, especially with the snowfall and views of snow capped mountains to the East. With how gorgeous it was, I was kind of surprised that I was the only person on the trail.
Started at 5:45 am thinking it would take us a while and there were thunderstorms forecasted. We ended up getting to the summit at 7:15.
Beautiful hike via Gooseberry, though the views were hazy from controlled burns. It was our unborn kid's first 11-er!
Prettier than expected hike with great views at the top. Had to share the trail with some stubborn cows.
Awesome hike. We ran into cows and a tree.
Second time on the mountain. Nice one-hour hike from Gooseberry Springs TH to the summit, gorgeous views. On the way back visited Pt. 10,767 on the SE ridge.
