I wonder why the Forest Service doesn't trim the trees around this lookout if it's still being used and maintained? It's not like this is a designated Wilderness area..
The BHNF management cares about building newer and bigger offices. Beyond that, it's anyone's guess what they will choose to do. Mt. Roosevelt has the traffic that should seem to warrant better upkeep. Or, why have they never developed a trail up 7,000 foot Sylvan Peak? The terrain would make for one of the Black Hills best climbs if they would make the effort to develop it. I wish I understood forest service politics.
