From Nixon Springs TH  Sucess!

Hiked with gimpilator. The trail became pretty indistinct about 0.5 miles away from the summit but there were a lot cairns. We thought that the point with the benchmark is not the actual highpoint but a point about 150 yards or so to the north. There were actually really nice views from a ledge near that point.
We also did Logan after this and drove to the end of FR-1064 within 0.5 miles of the summit. Views from the summit of Logan were spectacular!

Boring both times  Sucess!

Once in June of '03, again ten years later. It hasn't improved any.

Trumbull  Sucess!

Hiked to Mount Trumbull during a trip to Toroweap. Fire had burned much of the forest on the top of the plateau and the route was covered in fall leaves.

camped near trailhead  Sucess!

I recall the view was tree-obscured on the rounded summit. Trail was indistinct. For those interested, also said to be the highest point on Arizona Strip.... Also visited Toroweap.
27 October 2022: 2nd visit, with Matt & Dennis - we camped near Nixon Springs Fire Station. Proceeded north from the summit marker on a faint trail for a short distance to get a spectacular view north into Utah and Nevada!

Trail  Sucess!

The trail now is defined all the way to the highpoint, thanks to a use trail that is well marked with cairns and a worn boot path. Nice hike in a very remote area. We camped near the trailhead and saw very few people even driving the roads back there on a weekend. The weather was good with a nice cool day for my hike. Thanks Scott for all the info on this page, it was very helpful.

We drove south out of St, George on the River Road and found it was 70 miles to the TH from the Costco in St. George. The road was well graded and the school house near Mt. Trumbull is a must stop. We drove from the TH 60 miles to Fredonia making for a 130 mile effort with most of those miles on dirt roads.

From pass to south  Sucess!

Up from pass 6640- (40). Think I got on a bit of a trail,
and contoured east of 7847. Pretty easy route.

Nixon Springs 2x  Sucess!

Lots of snow; followed trail/cairns most of way, but just headed across snow for a while near top. Don't miss the viewpoint on the N side of the peak.

We went to Lava Falls the previous day.

Road to Mt Logan looked impassable. The road down from near Colorado City was pretty good, HC/4WD advised.

Update: went back in Oct 2008. The trail runs all the way to the top, though it is subtle and cairned in the last 0.5 mile.

For Mt Logan, one may drive within 0.5 mile of the summit... but the views are really nice.

Route Climbed: Nixon Springs Date Climbed: May 22, 2005  Sucess!

The day was pretty warm - in the high 90s as we came back to our truck, but it is a great day hike and an incredible region.
