Took the SW ridge up. Parked our car at the Nat. Hist. Museum. Beautiful day but a bit breezy. Temps in the 70s! Descended down the Mt. Van Cott trail to Red Butte Canyon. Easy early season climb.
Nice short hike to some fantastic views of the valley. Just in time for sunset!
Short but steep. Pretty views of the city.
Heidi Alexis and I ran up this one on a nice rainy night.
Nice day hike to get you up high.
Nice easy hike.
Hiked it in 1 hr 40 minutes with Lily. Pretty nice short hike close to the city.
quick hike to the top. nice view. beautiful snowy spring morning
Great hike for kids
6/25/12 Short hike 28 min up and 20 mins down. Took the Dog.
the only time I can remember, when I was a student at the U.
Again on 7 January 2020, almost 30 years later! Easy to access with the Red line TRAX.
Great quick hike. It was fun.
I like Cephalapod gulch the most, but did a hard run the other day up the northernmost of the ridges coming of the Bonny in 28 min up and 45 round trip. Sore legs the next day for sure!
Quick hike on a rainy day. Good view. Thought about continuing up, but the weather was deteriorating.
Nice quick hike with lots of wildflowers.
On a run from Ave Twins with Scott W.
My first mountain summit since moving to SLC. Good fun but not as good as big brother Beacon.
First time climbing Mt Van Cott. Winds 30-40 mph, snow immient, trail/summit clear. 42 minutes up/42 minutes down. Pretty much as advertised; short, brutish with a happy ending. Nice veiws.
Pretty quick and easy. Hiked up the rocky ridge and did a short loop down the other ridge.
#2 - 7/21/15 TRAIL RUN
It took me a lot of work to bag such a little mountain. I took my dog and kids up there on one of the hottest days in the summer of 2009. we had some bad directions, and it took us about an hour of hiking before we ended up in Cepnalopod Gulch. After about 15 minutes heading up the dog wouldn't walk anymore and the kids were crying, so we had to turn back. My kids still call this mountain Mt. Van Hot. :)
Back for more 2/4/2010- I wasn't exactly sure what the best route was, and I ended up going up Battle Gulch, and then getting on the ridge (Battle Creek Ridge) and from there is was an easy hike to the top where I was by myself. I enjoyed the views of the Wasatch and the sunrise. I think I will add a route page because the route I took down was much easier.
4/20/11- With Matt Van Horn, coming over from Ave Twins.
