Say Waa...  Sucess!

Summitted with a friend via Beaver Basin. The usual outstanding La Sal views. Waas is especially impressive from the summits of neighboring Castle and La Sal peaks.

Great climb. Still some patches of snow. The last 3 miles of road was brutal.

Route Climbed: Beaver Basin Date Climbed: 7-6-05  Sucess!

Camped near Dan's Lake and drove our vehicles up to the end of the road (nasty 4WD). A snow cornice remained at the saddle but could be worked around on its eastern end. A great viewpoint for viewing the rest of the La Sals and looking down into the Canyonlands and Arches areas. I was accompanied by my son in law Andrew Davis and Dennis Poulin

Route Climbed: Beaver Basin Date Climbed: September 1, 2003  Sucess!

I had failed again on this one in July, because I didn't bring an adequate map and chose to mix two routes that I wasn't a bit familiar with.

This time, I biked up Beaver Basin, and parked near some rusty mechanical debris around 10,500 feet. The hike up was simple and direct up to the saddle to the SW of Waas. I met a guy that I had talked with on the previous visit to Waas earlier in the season. I had a nap at the summit, and awoke to hundreds of crows (or some other large black birds) circling the mountain. UH Oh...The ride down was terrific. The next best thing to a hot-tub after a long ride/hike is a ride down that doesn't require pedaling. Go figure.
