Easy Trek from Wheeler  Sucess!

I was happy this peak was so close to Wheeler because it made it easy to bag two peaks in one day!

awesome  Sucess!

great peak with spectacular views. saw marmots the size of small dogs. saw a couple herds of big horn sheep. really cloudy, waited out an early morning thunderstorm, then hiked to the summit.

yep  Sucess!

Yes, I am adding Walter to shamelessly increase the number of peaks I can claim. It is unfortunately shadowed by its bigger, more glorious, and more visited neighbor

Pit stop on the way to the top  Sucess!

on the way to Wheeler  Sucess!

Traverse from Wheeler Peak  Sucess!

Would have been a shame NOT to tag it, since it's right next to Wheeler. Nothing impressive about the summit, except for the HD view of Wheeler and down into Bull-of-the-Woods. 2nd highest NM peak in the books.

6 peak day via Bull of the Woods  Sucess!

I love this time of year - perfect weather, sunny blue skies, autumn colors! Enjoyed the hot springs at Ojo Caliente, green chili beer and a suite with a kiva fireplace afterward. :-)

On the way to some other peak  Sucess!

Is this really a summit? Probably more like a false peak or sub-peak.

For real?!  Sucess!

It was a long hard climb that took well... Nevermind.. it was like 10ft off my path to Wheeler. Nevertheless..

Pleasant surprise  Sucess!

And it was a good one to take my mind off the fact that Bull-of-the-Woods is unnecessarily circuitous.

Also, as most of my ascent was in the dark, I wish I'd had a reliable, detailed topo map. There were a lot of trail junctions, many of which are not marked. Luckily my intuition prevailed.

Bull of the Woods trail  Sucess!

Went up Bull of the Woods trail to climb Wheeler Peak and climbed Mount Walter on the way. I descended via Williams Lake. I expected a pleasant late summer hike but encountered full winter conditions on the summit. It snowed 3-4" on the upper ridge with drifts up to my knees in some places. Temps were in the 30's. The wind was blowing 30mph and visibility was less than 100ft. I wasn't fully prepared for that but pressed on wearing only summer hiking boots and lightweight raingear.
