Short hike up the road- not many views due to big CA wildfires. Lots of bighorn sheep right on the trail.
Nice steady grade for a bike and a quick fun down hill. Lots of sheep and a coyote. Spectacular view of the Park. Highly recommended, lots of families do it.
vast majority of the Dunraven Pass approach covered in deep snow. made for a difficult but enjoyable hike. splendid summit views!
only a couple hundred feet visibility but still a nice hike nonetheless, will have to redo during better weather some day
A little tame, being passed by a maintenance pickup on the way down. Great views though, plus nice to get out of the wind at the top.
A fun, easy to follow, busy trail in September. Saw one black bear and ran into many other hikers who had seen more bears. Splendid views from the top.
Hiked with two friends from Dunraven Pass parking area on a cold, windy May day. Even though it was very cloudy, we could still see the Tetons far off to the south, some 75 miles away. Fantastic views throughout. This hike spurred my interest in scrambling/climbing more difficult mountains, to which I'll always be grateful!
Also climbed from Dunraven Pass on 5/28/09 with my girlfriend Becky. Snow was definitely an issue, but never encountered any dangerously steep patches. Summit views were quite clear, and the views were of course spectacular.
At the time, it was my highest peak and I had such a sense of accomplishment. It was July and there were still snowbanks on the trail at some of the higher elevations which amazed and amused me and my brothers. Washburn was a fun hike and one that challenged me without putting me in over my head. Beautiful views on top.
No much mountaneering here, but there is a very nice view from the top and we saw a huge male grizzly on the way up:
I made sure, I wasn't the slowest guy amongst all the spectators ;0)
Hiked this with my daughter Nichelle. Great scenery and some smoke from the nearby fire.
Panoramic summit with an amazing point of view over Yellowstone lake and mountains surrounding it
Northern route - speedy ascent 1h to the summit and 30 min back. The girl waited in the car ;-)
Nice views over Yellowstone. Very windy up there. Saw a big fire in the eastern part of Y.
Good stretch of the legs. Nice views from up top.
Had to do a double take at the twenty something guy hiking up the 'road' with trekking poles and a climbing helmet on.
I knew I should have worn my helmet. What was I thinking!
I forget the exact date. We climbed through a blizzard while some of the roads were still closed.
Grizzlies in view in many areas on the slopes below the peak.
Did it on a family vacation through the west. I especially loved the view of Yellowstone Canyon from the top. I also remember it being very windy from the top.
Mary and I did a day hike over Washburn while we were passing through Yellowstone on our way from the Tetons to Devils Tower. We arrived in the park late in the afternoon on Aug 12 and hiked to Lone Star Geyser, just in time for a major eruption. The following day we did the hike up Washburn, starting at Dunraven Pass and continuing on the North Spur trail past the hot springs to the Canyon (where we hitched a ride back to our car). We saw lots of bighorn sheep on the grassy ridge on the descent from the summit.
Saw a momma bear with two baby bears. Not actually sure what kind, though.
climbed in May 01, ended up postholing down the backside and cross country back to the road
