State HP#13  Sucess!

Climbed up in the snow and ice on the Jewell Tr/Gulfside Tr. 50 mph winds and -30 windchill... nice day for the middle of December! Can never get over how cool rime ice is; especially when it's forming on your beard :)

Perfect weather  Sucess!

My niece and I decided to hike Washington because we had both done it ten years earlier. We went up the Tuckerman Ravine Trail and it was hot! It was actually in the 60's on the summit. I must admit, it is kind of a bummer to do all that work and have all the cars and craziness at the top. I hiked Glacier Point in Yosemite last year and felt the same way. On the Glacier Point trail we passed two couples the entire time we hiked and then when we reached the top after all that solitude, it was a mad house! At the summit of Washington I did buy a shirt that said "this body climbed Mt. Washington". I have been hiking at my little Blue Hills for the past couple of years but this hike gave me the bug and started me on my goal to hike all 48, even though I couldn't walk for days after it. It is just hard to find people that want to hike.

SHP 13  Sucess!

Summit via Huntington's Ravine. Stream crossing was a little interesting given the recent tropical storms. But awesome none the less.

Ignore the buildings!!  Sucess!

Still a great mountain. Been up a few times, once in winter. Huntington Ravine Trail is great. Lions Head is a fun conga line in winter, and was my first use of crampons. I'll always remember it. Tag the true summit, descend a bit, sit and enjoy not being at the summit circus.

SHP #12  Sucess!

I had done Katahdin the day before, so I was worn out. I cheated and drove up! Oh well. The wind wasn't bad, just a light breeze.

Washington Success!  Sucess!

Climbed Washington via Huntington Ravine, which was awesome! The summit was cloud covered and there were a million tourists there from the Cog and Roadway, but had great sunshine most of the way up. I had almost forgotten there was a road, when I was on the summit ridge I was rather startled briefly by a the headlights of a car.. Kind of a shame and definitely left me feeling a bit ambiguous about gettin up top. descended via Tuckermans and was glad I had chosen Huntington to climb. A lot more difficult with great class 4 moves along the way.

Nasty Weather

Went up with EMS Climbing School. Nearly reached the summit but had to turn around due to deteriorating conditions - high winds, almost zero visibility. Awesome climb though. Will definitely go back.

9hrs 20 mins car to car  Sucess!

Went up Lions Head as Tuckerman was closed for maintenance. Interesting way up and the route finding kept us engaged but saw several people injured or just too tired on the way back down. Almost white out conditions at the summit.. in July!

i made a wise decsion

i tried to summit during late december with a friend
he ended up not feeling so good so stayed at the base of tuckermans
i made it up to tuckermans but decided i would rather live to climb another day
the wind and snow was filling my tracks in only a few seconds

HP # 28  Sucess!

46 degrees and 75 mph winds in July. I know I should have been ready for this place but it's unreal. Truly blown away by the mountain and almost literally blown off it.
