Delayed Hike  Sucess!

Rain kept us off the mountain for most of the morning. We started up the Tuckerman Ravine Trail around 11, intending to meet friends at the top who were taking the Auto Road. Bad news - the rain closed the gravel portion of the Auto Road, so after attaining the summit we had to hike an additional four miles down the road in the waning afternoon to finally meet them (they never did make it to the summit).

Huntington > Tuckermans  Sucess!

The ravines and the upper mountain are amazing. The summit was kind of deflating. At least they had hot dogs.

Route Climbed: Huntington-Tuckerman  Sucess!

One of the most intense hikes I've done in my life. Huntington is by far the hardest trails I've ever done, as it is both physically grueling and mentally intimidating. There were many times when I didn't know if I would make it up certain climbs, especially since a lot of the ones I did were off to the side of the trail. But with sheer will and determination, I made it, and lived to tell the tale. Views were non-existent on the summit, but on the way down Tuckerman, we had a few good ones. Do not do Huntington unless you have had some experience climbing.

Unforgettable  Sucess!

This is the mountain that started my obsession. I took Tuckerman's up and Lion's Head down. We stayed overnight at Hermit Lake.
Above the treeline in late August, there are lowbush blueberries all in the rocks and at the peak of ripeness. That gift from the mountain kept me going when I started getting tired.

First time on foot  Sucess!

I'd been up by car twice, but this was my first time hiking it. Went with a group of friends on a beautiful day. Only a slight drizzle on the way down.

A great time  Sucess!

Weather was better than average with bands of flurries and rain mixing with fog and bright sunshine. Visibility was excellent on occasion. Bill Welty was my companion on the way down. Two hours and twenty five minutes up from the Pinkham Notch visitor center to the summit via the Lions Head trail. Still plenty of snow in Tuckermans.

Thanks Ed!

This bit of fun planted a climbing seed where only backpacking had grown. It's more of a long hike though.

Great Climb   Sucess!

We had a beautiful day on the mountain, started climbing at 7:30am and it was -3 at Pinkham Notch. When we got to the summit the wind was blowing 40-50mph with a wind chill around -30 bellow. But we had crystal clear skies and great views.

Perfect day  Sucess!

Warm weather and low winds made for an unusual January day on the Lion Head winter route.

Crazy Wind on Lions Head  Sucess!

This climb was not for the weak. Winds were gusting over 100mph and there were full white out conditions. We were the first of the day to reach the summit and not sure if anyone else made it up that day. Most climbers turned back at the crest of loins head due to the snow and wind conditions.

"warm" day!  Sucess!

Went up Tuckerman's on New Years day. Was hoping to do an ice climb, but ended up being the warmest New Years Days on record! Was still windy and cold and "rimey" at the summit though.

Awesome Weather

Went up the Lion's Head Summer Route, got up to Split Rock by mid morning to find temps hovering around -5F with winds sustained over 100 mph. Went out around the large carrin for some pictures/video but decided not to attempt to cross the alpine garden with a wind chill around -50F. If you know anyone who was up there in tennis shoes please smack them for me, thank you.
