Reached the summit around 1 pm, after leaving the Nauman Tentsite around 9:15, going over Pierce, over Eisenhower, and around Monroe.
Views today were beautiful, and the crowds on the summit were plentiful. It is always nice though to pound down a cold diet coke, and no trip to Washington is complete with at least a bite of a Whoopie Muffin.
The hike from the Lake of the Clouds Hut up Washington is no joke, we were gassed.
While hiking the AMC for a week, heading South.
Had to turn back to guide down one of our party members who's face mask holes froze up. Pretty serious cold for such a small mountain, come prepared.
Nothing technical was required beyond ice axe and crampons.
First real mountain, had some slight difficulty but was so happy when I made it to the top. I felt down Tuck was OK, a little steep. Had a great time over all, I just wish they built an escalator instead of the stairs at the top of the mountain. Were those hard to get up or what?
Hiked this on a school trip. It was very cloudy and cold at the top - fitting for a mountain famous for bad weather!
fun mountain - much better in the winter -
Should have brought my snowboard. It's to bad this is the best the east coast has as far as mountains go.
Started Early made it to the link in no time. One of the hottest times in history for NH. Got totally baked in the ravine, peeling weeks after. Very long approach due to heat. Took crag trail to road and walked last mile to summit by road. Usual tourists on top.
That a beautiful trail, not so hard. On the zone alpine we have nice view.
Very slippery w/light rain. Fun time. Couldn't see much from the top, although it was still a good feeling. 2nd state high point.
Longest and tallest and steepest hike I've ever been on. Dampering to start because I have never seen the mountain until we reached the summit. Once we reached the top, it was amazingly beautiful! Couldn't have asked for nicer hike. Beautiful with clouds moving fast and then leaving the mountain completely. Fun and memorable day with my boyfriend, Britt, and sister, Kami.
Absolutely gorgeous day! Started off in the clouds with clearing once we reached the summit of Monroe. Then we were back in the clouds and the summit hung over top. After reaching the summit everything cleared out and we had awesome views everywhere. This was about as perfect a day you could ask for on this mountain. I summitted with my girlfriend Nicolle and her sister Kami for my second summit of this mountain.
Very bad weather on the way up but clear at the top. We had an excellent view of a rainbow stretching over Mt. Adams. An excellent finish to our annual trip to New England!
I was racing against a storm up the Right Gully. The top of it was filled with ice which made for some dicey climbing. The summit was covered in an ice fog. Since the storm hit, I went out the Lions Head. I got to experience some of Mount Washington’s ferocity first had. I saw one climber get blown off of his feet on the way out, fortunately he was not injured. I wound up being covered head to toe in ice but dry as a bone beneath my GORE-TEX.
Easy to follow trail. Great views.
Took Lion's Head Down.
Great day! -15 windchill....awesome compared to the next day (-30 to -40).
This was my first winter hike up a mountain and I loved it. We got a late start (9:00 AM), but still summitted.
long and beautiful climb, didn't attempt the summit
