great weather, but we couldnt hang out on the top too long though since we didnt hit washington until late in the day
Still fun after all these times up and down.
Great times on Mount Washington in every season! I've climbed the mountain over 20 times and have never had a dull time. Look forward to many more adventures!
Climbed with my friend Kate. Weather cooperated for a great hike! Beautiful! HP #17. Busy weekend though!
While doing the AT.
Up Tuckerman's. Did it with Dad.
Climbed with my wife and dog up tuckerman and down nelson crag. Beautiful day, lots of tourists.
120 miles of visibility...only the second day this year! In talking to locals they said that many of them had been up Washington multiple times and NEVER had a day like that. From Washington on to the rest of the northern Presidentials with a stopover at the Madison Hut.
60 mph winds, great climb to our first state highpoint
How could I not be successful? They wouldn't let me drive it, and my knees were aching from Mansfield and Marcy. So, I decided to drive this one. However, they wouldn't allow Hondas on the mountain. It seems my Civic doesn't have a first gear, and coming down would have ruined my beaks. So the good folks at Honda paid my way. I love Honda. On the top, it was cold, windy, and very interesting. Great experience.
Wet day. Tucks trail was a nice easy start before the transition to Lions Head where the hike got steep and to much fun. As we got passed the alpine garden we went up a snow field and lost track of the trail and were forced to turn back. Upon finding another way up, my partner refused to push on. great views of Tuckermans ravine. Great Mountain. Can't wait to go back and give it another shot.
Stayed the night before at the Joe Dodge Lodge. Went up via Tuckerman's Ravine/Lion's Head. One heck of a rockpile!
Climbed with the OSU mountaineering club. Made it to Lion's Head. The wind was so strong past there that the leaders were blown over while scouting it. Really wet my appitite for some more peaks. Wasn't technical but got some experience with Ice axe and crampons. The river at the bottom of the trail was beautiful.
Once in hot hot hot weather (Tucks) and once in the rain (Ammo Ravine). Loved both of 'em.
Beautiful fall day below; windy with no visibility on top. Date is approximate: it was some time in early-mid October.
cheers to those ambitious appalachian hikers and there history of not wasting any time getting up the mountain by using those silly switchbacks. straight to the top, baby! switchbacks do have their place...just not so much in the applachians. beautiful weather turning to downpour back to beautiful in a matter of seconds. crazy place, that Mount Washington.
Decided winter Lion Head was too steep for descent so returned
via Auto Road and Old Jackson, twice as far but mellow, got out in dark
Lion Head Winter Route (Jan 2004, Feb 2005, Aug 2005, Feb 2008, Aug 2008), Yale Gully (Feb 2006), Pinnacle Gully (Feb 2008), Damnation Gully (Mar 2008), Odell's Gully (Feb 2009)
Very icy in sections up to tree line. I had to turn back at the Upper Lion's Head with one of our guides and another team member. I did not have the stamina to complete the climb, although I had worked hard to prepare. I handled the weather much better than I would have expected and truly enjoyed the experience dispite needing to turn back.
Gorgeous Day...could see Greens and well into Maine
