The Lions Head Trail

Numerous ascents during many times of year. one of may trails i have taken to the summit. it is moderate in most place and great views of Tuckerman and Wildcat are plentiful. This trail is a safer bet for ascent when snow and ice fill Tuckerman ravine and The Tuckerman Ravine Trail becomes slick or dangerous

We were doing a Presidential traverse but ended up going down to Hermit Lake Shelters and hiking back up to Washignton on the Tuckerman Ravine Trail, and then on towards the northern Presidents. SOme of our party ended up going back up Washington the next day. They werent tired even after our 17+ mile the day before.

although ive been all over this beast this day took the cake. fighting 80 mph winds and white-out conditions is a bit of the norm for my luck on washington. thank god literally for the "escape hatch" retreat glissade

Also my first mountain  Sucess!

My first mountain ever, at age 13. I climbed it via the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail with my family (my 6 yr. old brother made it up too!). I also climbed it in college via the Crawford Path (up) and Lion's Head (down), finished by a hitch-hike back to our car at Crawford Notch. Had good weather and great views the first time; hiked in a hail and rain storm the second time, with only about 5 minutes of views before the clouds closed back in.

Boott Spur / Lakes of the Clouds / Summit  Sucess!

120 miles of visibility...only the second day this year! In talking to locals they said that many of them had been up Washington multiple times and NEVER had a day like that. From Washington on to the rest of the northern Presidentials with a stopover at the Madison Hut.

Hondas not wanted--GOOD!  Sucess!

How could I not be successful? They wouldn't let me drive it, and my knees were aching from Mansfield and Marcy. So, I decided to drive this one. However, they wouldn't allow Hondas on the mountain. It seems my Civic doesn't have a first gear, and coming down would have ruined my beaks. So the good folks at Honda paid my way. I love Honda. On the top, it was cold, windy, and very interesting. Great experience.

Route: Tuckermans to Lions head

Wet day. Tucks trail was a nice easy start before the transition to Lions Head where the hike got steep and to much fun. As we got passed the alpine garden we went up a snow field and lost track of the trail and were forced to turn back. Upon finding another way up, my partner refused to push on. great views of Tuckermans ravine. Great Mountain. Can't wait to go back and give it another shot.

Lion's Head

Climbed with the OSU mountaineering club. Made it to Lion's Head. The wind was so strong past there that the leaders were blown over while scouting it. Really wet my appitite for some more peaks. Wasn't technical but got some experience with Ice axe and crampons. The river at the bottom of the trail was beautiful.
