15th HP  Sucess!

Did this with my brother (his first time peakbagging). I was actually expecting the whole thing to be a lot harder, but my feet/legs didn't even hurt. My brother thought it was a lot harder though. Went up to the top in a day and then camped at trail camp. Finished off with pancakes at the trailhead.

Bear!  Sucess!

Via Standard Route. Had bear encounter in parking lot before starting. He was sneaking up on my wife’s side of the car when we were getting ready. Was able to shoo it away. Do NOT leave your pack or any food unguarded. He was patrolling for a quick steal. Use the bear boxes.

Re: Bear!

My partner and I were sitting in his truck trying to get some rest before our climb. Had a bear climb into the bed of the truck with us in the cab. At first I thought my partner was just moving around trying to get comfortable. He though it was me moving around. It was so dark that it took us a while to realize that is was not either one of us. When we shined a flash light into the bed, we saw a small black bear just on the other side of the window with my water bottle in it's mouth. Pretty sure he was more scared then us by the way he leaped out of the truck.

6-23-2012 #15 in a row  Sucess!

Today was our 15th summit in a row, the weather was good when we left the portal at 5:15 AM ,as we made our way up the main trail we started to encounter lots of people. We had decided when we left the car to make this a walk instead of our usual push for personal best time, a relief since we just finished the 54 mile evolution loop two days prior in 18 hrs. So this trip was fun we interacted with lots with people on the way up and gave big words of encouragement. As we reached trails crest the wind was ripping through the notch making it almost hard to stand up, just in time to meet a guy who had turned back do to the high winds. He asked if we would mind helping him to the summit, yes sir no problem , off we went head down jackets on we pushed forward , it was awesome we made it with our new guest and he was elated to see the summit, what a fun feeling watching one who had given up dig deep and succeed good job Carl.. look forward to next week . Trail is in great shape all the guys working on the trail thank you for all the hard work keeping the Whitney trail in such good condition..MW85

trip #7  Sucess!

This was our 7th trip up Whitney in the last 2 months. we are training for a multi stage race in Nepal this coming november, as of late our trips are under 12 hrs from car to summit to car with camera gear. Whitney is the sacred training ground for us as well as many people looking to get up for their first time. Its always a pleasure meeting new people and helping those in need. We have met a guy recently, his name is Richard , and he has 25 consecutive weeks up Whitney . we will be headed down again tonight for our 3 am departure , we will check in with trail information tomorrow.. Peace Davey and Tracy

Mountaineers Route

with Moarkse. First day was a struggle with the wind and routefinding. Second day we made it to about 12,000 to the ridge before Iceberg lake but were too tired to continue. Routefinding was a challenge on the way down, and we wound up using some rappel slings to rappel of the trail where it appeared to have cliffed-out for others as well. Snow condition was very variable, from posthole-soft to icy.

Dayhike  Sucess!

Nice day hike to the summit, had to avoid the switchbacks due to snow and ice and go up the chute which made it a little more interesting, but fun none-the-less.

Did my best ...  Sucess!

... and got there. Overnight at Trail Camp is a great experience, dawn breaking as you're heading up the 99 switchbacks is stunning.

Mt. Whitney in 1 day  Sucess!

One of the best days of my life... and my feet had never hurt so much! We started at around 6 am and reached the summit around noon. Stayed at the hostel in Lone Pine and got pizza across the street... perfect set up.
