Good weather  Sucess!

It was a good weather day on Whitney. I made it up in 6 hours 45 minutes. The way down was very hard; the way up felt pretty good except for the last couple miles where I really felt the altitude.

End of a long journey  Sucess!

An interesting end to an epic journey on the John Muir Trail. The sheer amount of people was a little shocking as was seeing one man crap on the side of the trail and finding a big pile of human excrement in the middle of the trail. Views and company fortunately evened things out.

Day trip w/ a detour  Sucess!

My favorite hike without snow! My highest climb but the altitude didn't affect me much. Hiked via Whitney Portal and had planned a 1 day out-and-back though had setup a tent at Outpost Camp in case we decided to stay which we ended up having to as we assisted a 'tourist' hiker who was feeling the effects of the altitude and had become seperated from his group and was near-incoherent. So we helped him a good ways down in the dark as he had no light and put him up in our tent with some tea and soup. Great hike and helped someone in the process.

Mountaineers Route Up Main Trail Down  Sucess!

I went on a hike to Mount Whitney which is the highest summit in the contiguous United States with an elevation of 14,505 feet. We left at around 4:00 AM and returned 13.5 hours later. I was not able to take pictures of Elephant Ear or the Ledges because it was too dark when we ascended that section. We took the mountaineers route up, and the main trail back down. The hike featured class 3 & 4 climbing on the way up which took us about 8 hours. A hail storm came in on our way down the main trail so I could not take pictures for a couple of hours as I was protecting myself and my camera from the 1/4 inch sleet which was followed by rain. I estimate the total distance to be 21-22 miles round trip with an elevation gain of just under 5,900 feet. Amazing Day!!!!!

From Crabtree Meadows  Sucess!

We woke up early and left Upper Crabtree Meadows by 3:00 AM with headlamps cutting through the dark morning air. We spent nearly two hours on the summit enjoying the views and refueling before returning to Crabtree for another night of camping. Partners: The Crusty Bag-ettes.

Awesome Trip  Sucess!

We hauled our gear up to trail camp, set up, and made the summit push the next day. All went well, except sunscreen wore off on the way back and I ended up matching my orange shirt. It was an awesome climb!
