Wanna see an easy start can turn into a relentlessly steep hike?
Try the Willey Range Trail from Ethan Pond. Although I hear A-Z is pretty grueling as well. Spent the night on the summit-3RD sickest electrical storm of my life (starting around sunset and ending at some ungodly hour of the morning)with bolts hitting summits all around. Torrential rain and extremely loud thunder made for quite an interesting nights sleep or lack thereof. Trip report to follow.
It was very cold and the ice was brittle and cracked easily. We went up 3 pitches or so and bailed before the top. Our feet and hands were freezing.
Lots of snow, ladders buried
Climbed w/ EMS Guide
Climbed Willeys Slide, partially, then bailed. Cold and windy day.
ice climbing - didn't go to summit
First peak ever - used it as a warmup for Washington. Muddy and wild. About 4 hours roundtrip with 15 minutes at the peak.
I did a great day hike with my girlfriend, we started by the mt Tom, field, Willey and Avalon. Nice view on each summit
Hiked late in the day and did the entire range, returning in the dark. This was a great backpack.
Nice to be here. Limitted views to the west.
Summit = Topout route
Great day of 600' of super ice climbing...
It was extremely icey but a beautiful day.
Bagged this one several times during my White Mountain adventures of the mid '90s.
